Hi I'm New! Clio 172 Cup...

  Iceberg 172
Hi Everyone.

My name is Steve and I'm coming back to the French Hot Hatch clan after a stint in VAG's.

I'm 22 and live near Dorking in Surrey.

This is now my 12th car!

Previous Cars worth mentioning...

S1 106 XSI

S2 106 GTI

S2 RST

Ibiza Cupra 1.8 20VT

Audi TT 1.8 20VT

Polo GTI (1.8 20VT conversion)

And now this! Due to unfortunate circumstances of the previous owner which I feel terrible about (some on here may know the car!) I'm now the proud owner of this beauty!

It's running a silenced decat, stealth KTEC SS exhaust, cold air feed to std air box with a panel filter and KTEC coilovers. I think that's the perfect mods and it doesn't really need anything else.

However I'm ordering a Carbon Fibre front splitter and MOMO team 300mm steering wheel as I'm not keen on the standard wheel and the thumb grips have split.

(I'd be keen to see other people's Clio's with a Momo or aftermarket steering wheel!)

I picked it up from NORTH WALES yesterday, so haven't had a chance to take new pics, but come the weekend I'll give it a quick mini detailing session and take some nice pics.

Anyway, Sorry for pic whoring and sorry there's not more of my Clio but I promise there will be!

The s2 rs turbo looks ace. My mate has a s1 and i absolutly love them. Welcome to the site :)

Thanks everyone!

My 106 GTI is by far my favourite car i've ever owned! I sold it on 40k miles (so very very low!) and it was absolutely mint. If it wasn't for the fact that someone offered me top top money for it I wouldn't have sold it.

was you ever on PGAC? remember me if you were, your car looks familular? (spell?) lol.
i had a black gti with white gti-6 alloys/cyclones?

Welcome on CS!

You right that a CS doesn't need anything else apart from being standard.

Hey Jim,
Nice one that Van Diemen... ever considered a old Formula Renault FR2.0?

I was on the 106owners website, It was brand new when I had my 106 though.

My love for that 106 is still there and if it comes up for sale I would buy it back tomorrow! I do still keep a check on pistonheads to see if it ever come up!

  Iceberg 172
welcome, nice selection of cars. the 106 looks mint! i bet the polo went well to!?

enjoy the cup

The 106 was probably one of the mintest 106 GTI's left! I sold it a few years back and got nearly £5000 for it! That's how minty mint it was.

The Polo went very well on a dry day! It was running close to 300bhp so rolling at 60mph and accelerating in the dry it would shock most things on the road.

But in the wet the power was just unusable and ultimately annoying to drive!!!!

Thanks for that mate, I really need to get a new steering wheel (not that mine is in that bad condition... I just don't think it offers any feel as to what's happening at the front end. Feels very very light.

main difference i noticed from swapping mine. feels so much better now. more direct and actually has a bit of weight / feel to it.

  Iceberg 172
Well I've just got back in from an evening of getting to know the Clio!

What an awesome car! There's just the right amount of power there, not too much so the wheels are constantly spinning but plenty to keep me smiling!

I was a bit worried after owning a 265bhp TT, 280+bhp polo etc that i'd find the clio a bit slow in comparison... but it's not.

I'm amazed by the handling, it is probably the nicest car i've owned which does everything so well.

Although it's on coilies it's very comfortable, althoguh it's got a decat and stealth SS exhaust it's perfectly quiet when cruising but it just sounds fantastic on full chat.

I'm so so so impressed with it!

If anyone know's where I can get some Trophy Recaro's from please let me know!

That's what I need.

I had a 280mm momo team wheel in my polo, and you could feel everything through it.

Although it was too small (couldn't see the dials!).

they pop up on here every now and then, think they usually got for about £500-750ish.

enjoy it.

oh and ive got a sparco ring fitted, think its 320mm (or 300mm???) but its perfect. probably the best thing i did to the car tbh.

  Iceberg 172
Anybody know a Clio 172 Cup in Caterham??? I've noticed that there's one down my Girlfriends road in Foxon Lane!

  Iceberg 172
Yeah, but the Trophy's have Renault Sport embroidered in to them don't they???

Other options could be ITR seats etc.

  Iceberg 172
Oh :(

Not too worry, that's not something I need atm.

Renault quoted £165 for a new chin spoiler!!!!!!! I nearly fell off my chair considering I can get the carbon fibre one for £111!

I was expecting say £40... that way if I bash it off it's not a major issue as I don't fancy scraping the CF one to shreds (as it is quite low at the front!).

  Iceberg 172
I don't have permission to veiw that :(

I'll be a paid member tomorrow (I Can't be arsed to go and get my debit card now cos i'm shattered!) and i'll veiw it then.

Thanks.

Apparently 307 ones fit with a quick modification of length... im bout to get one for mine. If you search there are pics of CS with them fitted.

Funnily enough I was looking at your PH advert for the Polo the other day! Looked very well done. Interesting thoughts on the 172, looks to be a tidy example.

  Iceberg 172
Yeah the Polo was immense, just un driveable!

I'm loving the 172 atm... although when i touch the brakes my rear fog symbol flashes on the dash!? - I take it that's French wiring for ya!!!!

mines been doing that recently, think its just a bit of a dodgy connection on the rear lights so going to give them a clean up over the next few days.

  Iceberg 172
I thought it'd be something like that! I'll take mine off at the weekend too.

Do all Clio's have plastic arches!? (sorry to sound niiiave... i'm still learning about them!)

I was checking them last night as I was thinking of getting the arches rolled rather than lift the suspension slightly... turns out they're plastic!

  Iceberg 172
Welcome to the site mate.

Nice collection of cars you've had. Enjoy the Cup!

Thanks mate! I've also had a few BMW's! I only had the RST for 3 weeks!

I'm really enjoying the Cup! I'm just waiting for K Tec to come back to me with regards to the steering wheel.

front wings? yeh they do. or all 172/182's do anyway.

is it rubbing? maybe just arch liners that need modifying slightly. depends how low it is.

  Iceberg 172
Erm quite low, I personally don't think it's rubbing on the wings, I thought it was possibly the arch liners.

I was considering 5mm spacers up front with 10mm spacers out back. Has anyone else done this?

  Iceberg 172
I fitted Aero wipers last night... which I've fitted to my last car and I love them! I can't stand the old type anymore!

Tried to put the standard HU back in last night (as I have no intention of putting a sub or anything in it so i'd prefer a std looking dash and for the top lcd display to work properly) had a nightmare getting the old unit out as the cage was put in very very very well! Ended up slicing my thumb on the cage! Got the Renault HU in then asked me for a code!

I've gone through all the Renault books I got with the car but can't find anything apart from 1 saying I have to contact the Dealership which supplied the car. I have no idea which Renault garage supplied the car though!

So got to do a bit of digging today and make a few calls as I'm not a lover of the JVC HU that's in the car atm.
