Gaz85 and DJW Daves 172 Track Cup

Thought we best get a wee project thread up for our track car. We bought this a couple of months ago it came up pretty close so a deal was made and it was delivered to us the next night. It will be used for track days and trailered there.

ktec stealth s/s exhaust system
acw polycarb window kit with sliders (rear windows supplied not fitted)
rear rollcage x brace & drivers harness bar
renaultsport/omp bucket seat with sliders
sparco suade steering wheel with 50mm spacer
fully stripped
f1s on Dunlop slicks

We had a list of things to complete when got it so far:

Fit new caliper carrier
remove rear wiper/motor
Remove passenger airbag
secure seat
bolt harness in
remove front fogs
new wipers
clean out inside of car

So far we have completed that as the weather has been terrible however we are now in a position to take it to a track day.

Things still to do:

Fit cage
fit passenger seat
strip out wiring not needed in car

Well we have the cup ready for knock hill on Thursday night. Wets on as being Scottish we know it will rain, cv boot secured, and passenger seat in!

Nice wheels. I'll bring the inflator up with me, had to drop them down when the track was drying and I overheated the rears. Ended up with opposite lock before the apex of carlube!

lol thank John for the wheels, slicks for its first outing might have been a bit much! Cheers mate you shall need to teach my about the pressures to run

Got a lot on this week so I'm seeing how it goes and if I can get a tow down I'll throw the brakes and wheels on and come down.

We took the cup last night to knockhill this was the first time we had driven the car further than off the drive along with this being my first track night we were slightly nervous. However there was no need to be the car performed faultlessly with a few minor points to pick up on. A brake fluid change and probably some new discs and pads, and we need to move the drivers seat back.

We were on road tyres as it was raining all day till we got there and it was a beautiful night which reminds me we need a sunstrip as we couldn't see much at times!!

Just to update this. It's been parked up on my Mums drive since the track day.

Issues to sort.

Brake fluid change
New discs and pads as I think they are a little warped
Move the drivers seat back a little
fit a matching harness (not really an urgent job to be fair)

Other than that a wash over and she should be back out for June/July Dependant on the Knockhill dates.

Small update: car now pretty much ready for knockhill on Sunday on another set of Daves "rare" wheels on semi slicks.

Dave has been busy working away on the car over the last week, unfortunately I am studying constantly so haven't been able to help.

Jobs completed

changed coilpack - as last one decided to go
Brakes changed to HC discs and ds2500 pads
"rare" wheels with A048s on
New battery fitted

Still to do before Sunday:

Move drivers seat back slightly
Fit Sunstrip - (last time we couldn't see much due to the sun)
sort passenger harness out.
