Full throttle=less go?

  CLIO 172
Can anyone suggest why a 172 would go better and feel smoother on less than full throttle. When I pushed it today on full throttle it felt hesitant and gave a rough edge to the sound?

Surely the timing is fixed isn't it. How would it change. Do you mean the vvt? The belts have been changed recentlY

Who though? If I don't ask everyone else will, possible yes failing that would need fault codes read, how recently where they done?

Previous owner had it done. Presumably Mitchell's, Lowestoft. Would have to check receipts for date. You are starting to concern me now. Lol

Sorry :dapprove: Best to book it in to a specailist off here in the traders section, for a timing check and fault code read maybe, it could something small, you won't know until you get it looked at, you can guess all you like (as can people on the forum) its just best to get it looked at.

Yes. Although I'm only guessing. I feel there's a lot of scaremongering when it comes to timing belts on here because it's always pointed to as the cause of most problems people have but most of the time it's something simple. Don't get me wrong the belts need specialist attention at certain intervals but there are other causes to problems on a car, so exhaust those options first IMO.

Unless of course this has all started since the belts were changed, then it's a bit coincidental

If it was cam timing it wouldnt just effect you on full timing.

Get a wideband up it, its probably leaning out on full throttle for some reason, if it is then you can look into why and at least know roughly what you are looking for.

FLOL so if a specialist off here hasn't done the timing it is wrong?? there are plenty of capable people who can do it.

As chip said it would affect it in other ways not just full throttle.

I meant wouldnt just effect full throtlte, glad you got what I meant though, lol

Its a pain sometimes that you cant edit on here when you spot a mistake unless its straight away.

I would recommend getting the timing checked. On full throttle the VVT will kick in around 4,500. Or it should if it's running right. The engine should run smooth once it's warmed up. They all run a bit erratic when cold.

The VVT is active well before 4500rpm, about 3000rpm before in fact.

The cam advances at around 1500rpm and stays advanced until about 6500rpm (its actually slightly different on different revisions of the map from renault, IIRC its the 182 that holds it on the longest as standard)
