Fellas, may need a hand at some point.

(i realise this is for events etc, apologies, just wamt to leep this off NE Facebook and just talk to you'd straight...

Been Reading a couple of threads and knowing what predicament I am in... It's safe to say I'd be fucked very soon if I don't do anything.

Well the water pump needs changing. Aaaaaand I'm skint till the 7th next month, well not skint just can't afford the 100's to fix. So I'm wanting to supply the parts myself and refit the new pump + belt. This would be the first time for me to do it, but i wouldn't say I was clueless.

Is there anyone who would be interested in giving me hand? If you want paid for helping me im sure we can wok something out. :) Now I kown im not the most knowledgeable, just or my own piece of mind. I'm confident in doing it but always good to have a backup.

Or does anyone perhaps know a cheap garage or specialist they can recommend? I'm in spennymoor and the car does run just it's making a noise in the water pump. I've tea a threads tonight about a guys pump going and it's kinda scared the shots out'a me! Haha.

Opinions on how accurate this guide is?

I've studied this none stop lol.

Hopefully want to get this completed before the run out on the 3rd :)

Cheers fellas.

I'm looking at doing mine asap, all parts can be bought for around 90-110 (OEM Brand) Gates from eBay. I'm on 115K haha.

Can also buy all parts from Eurocarparts for £106.20 minus parts25 code.

The guide is what I'll be using along with the trustworthy haynes manual.

I'm sure a garage should charge around £150+ in theory it's not that much of a job.

Only 150 to change? Is that after I've bought all he parts myself or...? Hmm

It's things like the struts i need which I don't have to hold up the car when my jack is holding up the block, can't bring myself to use bricks lol. Silly things like them. I will be investing in some though.

When you thinking of doing yours?

Mine is a 1.2, much work needed for that compared to the 1*2's?

If it's 150 to get it changed and fitted at a garage with parts I might just do that tbh! Was thinking it was around 300-400 ish. Yeah got my bid on a Haynes on eBay and posted in the wanted section.. Once I've got that I'll be on the line to start.

I'm only on 84k here lol :( only got 1 year service history so not sure if it's been done. But I want it done anyway and now's the time :)

I've just gone an hunched myself now haven't I? Go to start car in the morning and bam......

£150 all in from a garage but that'll be with cheaper parts.

Axle Stands for £20 @ halfords http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_216002_langId_-1_categoryId_255207

Could be cheaper elsewhere.

I'll be doing mine within 2 weeks as I get a tax rebate this friday :)

Same cars/engines pal :) although mine should be no different as an 05 plate.

1*2 cambelts etc is like trying to solve a rubiks cube, we are simply lining up marks on the camshaft and the crankshaft with marks on the belt.

If you don't succeed in getting a Haynes I could scan the pages in for you into a PDF.

Ahh right, by cheaper parts like. Naff plastic water pump? Apparently they nack up easier than a belt lol. Well... Not as easy but are crap lol.

Ah nice one, lucky for some eh ! They're takin like 190quid off me! ha. I get paid on the 7th so if it's not done in the next couple of weeks it will be done then ! Ideally I'd like it done tomorrow but it's not realistic ATM.

Yeh read that 1*2's are harder like.

So, hope you don't mind that I fire a few questions at ya? :p do the timing kits come with the whole shabang, belt, water pimp, tensioner etc..? As tbh I'd just get the kit. Everything new if I can help it while I'm in. Or would it be best to buy it all separate?

Hmm, if you could scan me the pages that would be great! Till my bid comes through on this I'd be able to revise a 2nd piece of material :) sooner I start the better I think. Got 16 hours left on this bid.. Not paying more than 15 cos I'm a cheapskate :) lol.

Can't be any naff pump they'll have to conform to certain standards, well afaik my pump has lasted 115K so I wouldn't fret :)

Some of the 'kits' only have the belt & tensioner, others have belt + tensioner + pump.

If buying parts yourself I'd recommend a Gates belt as that is OEM manufacturer for Renault.

If bought with a kit supplied with everything needed (pump + belt + tensioner) I'm sure the other parts will be as good as.

I got mine for just less than a tenner :p

At least that's put my mind at ease, I'll just drive about and see what thir prices are. Known my luck it'd go while I'm packed there.

My only concern is invade I just plough the jack up through the sump lmao.

Hmmm yeah I might look out for that kit. I've been looking on different sites but I can't find any where it states it has the pump, tensioner, pulleys etc.. So I'm not sure.

A tenner... Alright for some haha! That wasn't the whole kit was it..? Damn wicked price if it was! What's the trick??? Ha.

Where are you from in the northeast like?
EDIT: apologies mate just realised you're from Manchester haha.

a tenner for the haynes manual  a friend's mate who works at a garage says he can get the parts for around £50 but then that's trade.

As the guide says put a block of wood beneath the sump and the jack to prevent anything from being damaged.

I know I ain't from NE but you're in the same predicament as myself, still not 'that' far away.

But still after both fuel costs you may aswell book it in at a garage or pick up your spanners and roll up your sleeves.

Most of the kits will only be The belt + tensioner.

have a look on www.eurocarparts.com then type your reg in then use parts25 voucher code all should now come to ~£84 with a belt kit + waterpump.

Ohh haha I was thinkin.. Tenner for a timin kit.. Bet it fell off a wagon!!!! Lol :p

Yeah should only take a couple of hours.. And I'm guessing If it rains while im in the engine, without a garage, it's game over for the engine? Ha. :(

Yeah but of wood will do! Will let you know how it goes when I start it.

So, these are what I've chosen so far..

And

I've also looked at the gates belts, but I'm not really keen on using eBay for major parts yet, this Haynes will actually be the first thing I've bought off it, heard alsorts about people getting ripped off an that. Nvm..

Yeah, I also need some of that gasket paste sealant, local car shop should have some os that!

Do garages tend to charge To just look at the car... I don't really want them to get in it and actually look at the pump itself etc.. I'd just like to go up, tell them the symptoms and let them hear the racket it's making.. I'm Probably asking to much of them but I've always thought that these guys will be pretty clued up on it to know straight away! Thats when I'd wack out the spanners an hammers! Lol... Not really hammers! 11 hours on the Haynes!!! It's at £10 including p+p ATM lol

Going garage to garage tomorrow to get some prices, does anyone know any good independents around the NE and a rough cost ? Perhaps you've just had yours done recently ?

Took her into he garage today to find out what the noise was coming from the engine bay. First time I've left her alone booo!!!

Anyway, I never mentioned anything about a water pump or timing belt as I didn't want to get it in his head that that's what the problem could be, I just left him too it.

He phones back at 4pm same day and said the fan belt has a big chunk gone and the brackets holding it? Are on their way out too. 20.00 notes an he had it all chelanged new for me :) although, it is something I can say is now new! Although I don't think the problem has gone away. I haven't really tested it out properly yet as I haven't been able to drive it long enough to heat the engine up till the point where it makes the noise, but he says it is fixed. I'll probably find out in the next couple of days.

Booked her in for a full service next tuesday, everything included for £100 so she will be getting even more tlc :)
I just wish this snow would just do one I really need to finish restoring my headlights!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1358904008.865420.jpg took this before i started it. actually looks worse than this in really life but meh, I'm half way with them.

Awesome matey. Payday? I love that time of the month.

I was quoted 242.00 for a new timing belt kit, alternator belt and a water pump by one garage.. Think I'll be shopping around a bit.. Though he did say he was throwing the alternator belt in himself so.. Like I think he meant for free, dunno! Lol.

I think I'll just go to the garage to get it done as I know it's due.. But gotta wait till the 7th.. I hope it lasts till then! Lol

Still doing it on your own?

It's payday every Friday for me :)

£242 is a bit steep for a non-specialist, the alternator belt themselves are around £8.

I've priced everything up for both belts + pump + tensioner. It comes to a few pennies above £90 and the belts are manufactured by continental too.

Yea I'll be doing it alone, done most of the stuff on my car myself.
