~ FAO Evil Ice ~

Soon i will be taking delivery of a new "JL 10W3v2-D2" sub ( click here for details http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/10w3v2.htmlhttp://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/10w3v2.html ) Now to be truthful ive never set up any ice before, infact ive never had a decent music system since driving so this is all new to me.

ive picked a 10inch becuase im looking for a nice clean punchy bass, SQ is my main concern rather then ear bleeds. This will be running off a pioneer DEH 6400r HU. My questions are :-

1. Did i make the right choice in picking JLs 10 W3v2 D2 over say Aplines " ALP-SWR1021D / ALP-SWR1041D http://www.alpine-europe.com/2002/products2002/gb/swr_1021d.htmhttp://www.alpine-europe.com/2002/products2002/gb/swr_1021d.htm

2. Whats the best way to wire this thing... ive heard sooo many storys in how i should wire a DVC sub... it appears an in-parelle setup maybe the way. Will this then leave me then with a 4ohm or a 8ohm load on my amp?!

pic as follows :-

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard/1_2ohmDVC_4ohm.gif

whats the advantage of having a DVC sub over say a single? would i have been better investing in a single VC ? whats the pros / cons over a dual voice cone ?

3. As of the moment i havent purchased an Amp.. what AMP setup would best suit a setup as seen in the above picture. The sub is rated at 300RMS, would a need a 2 ch amp of a output of 150RMS per voice coil to give me a total load of 300RMS @ 4ohlms ?

im really sorry for so many questions, but as i say i know nothing about this subject. if im talking bollox then please excuse me

Many thanks for any advise,

James.

The JL is a better choice than the Alpine equivalents...you chose well. DVC subs will let ithe sub pound harder for longer (I wont go into the science of it). It depends what setup you are going for but DVC is usually a good move.

With regards to wiring it up. You have gone for the dual 2 ohm version which means that you need an amp that will produce between 300 and 600watts RMS (The JL will take it) at 1ohm if you wire it in parallel. If you wire it in series like the picture then you will show the amp a 4ohm load therefore you will need the same power at 4ohms.

There are quite a few options on amps. Do you have a particular budget that you are looking to stick to for an amp.

If you can let me know, I will recommend a few for you.
