my exhaust on a focus 1.6 is blowing out lot of grey smoke when revved and seems to pop aswell. The mechanic thinks it could have the wrong oil in as apparently the zetec engine needs a special oil. Either that or he said the headgasket or pistons has this ever happened to anyon ethe car is still under warraanty and only service 2 weeks ago any help would be appreciated

Could be the piston rings or valves if it is definately grey smoke.

sounds like its over fuelling to me,, grey smoke is petrol and would explain the pops
oil smoke is blue,, piston rings would do it yes but valves?? you mean valve stem seals??
but as said that would be blue smoke
zetecs do indeed need 5-30 which isn't particularly special nowadays when they first come out people were putting 10/40 in them and suffering from sticking valves but not any more really
