Engine light on following bumper removal/replacement for Xenon ballast change?

  Clio Sport 172
Got brave and busy this afternoon to sort a problem with xenon drivers side being temperamental

Whipped the bumper off - no issues.
Disconnected and removed headlamp - no issues
Changed ballast for replacement bought online - no issues
Reconnected connections to igniter, dipped and xenon and checked light was working - Sorted
Replaced bumper ,reconnected washer tubes and fog lights - no issues
All lights working - no issues.

Then notice engine light is on - Ouch!

Anybody out there seen the same problem or got an idea what I could have nudged or done to get the engine light on?
There was no issues prior to this and It was so straightforward I am totally perplexed as to what might be
causing the issue

If it was the RH ( UK drivers side ) headlamp, you may have disturbed/trapped the wiring to the carbon canister?

Thanks - I'll take a look now although I guess i can't get to top of it where the connection is now everything is back on.

I did wonder what that unit was, right at front on drivers side
and did press the connection just to be sure. I may have dislodged it.
Just my luck.

all looks pretty solid and in place i was bale to use a length of dwell and
ensure everything was pushed home.

Just a thought but is it possible would the engine management system detected the new recon ballast
and think there is problem?

I`ve changed ballasts with no problem, and cannot see why it would bring the EML on.

It was not on when the headlight was not working, was it?

Is the car a 172 or 182?

Is it just the EML light in the bottom RH side of the instruments, or is the electrical fault light in the centre of display also on, and the car is driving in limp mode?

The engine light was definitely not on prior to the bumper being removed and when the headlamp was not working.

It's a '51 Ph2 172

Just the orange EML warning light in the bottom right corner, no other lights at at all.

Definitely not in limp mode.
I guess my only option is I need to get the codes read to check it out properly.
Bit of a stretch but it might be completely unrelated to what I've done this afternoon.

If it`s driving normally, I`m guessing you disconnected something with the ignition on and it`s just the residual EML on, now that it`s reconnected.

It should go out in a couple of days if there are no live faults.

Thanks guys,

I tried a disconnect and reconnect of battery to no avail so will leave it as you suggest and see what happens over next few days.
Everything seems fine with the car otherwise.
Fingers crossed - will report back in a few days good or bad.

Cheers

It might be worth you buying one of these.

I`ve found it pretty accurate when it comes to primary engine management faults, and you can turn the EML off with it.

It has it`s limitations, which is to be expected for £10.

Thanks Guys, really appreciate your insight on this.

Light still on this morning (so frustrating) but have just ordered the U480 so hopefully I can clear it and see if it reoccurs.

So U480 code reader arrived and straight on it. However following the instructions word for word.......

It connects fine, seems to initialise through the protocols and run a scan which comes up as No Codes Found even though EML light still orange and still on!
I have tried a rescan and it then comes up with ( see image ) and then just stays like this.

Looks like I need to get the codes read and cleared elsewhere using another reader, any ideas why it might be being such a pain?

I definitely did something to my CC when I swapped the xenon bulbs out recently. The CC is more 'clicky' in sound than it was before.
The electronic valve might not be fully seated into the canister as it is removable, it clicks like hell haha

Ended up swinging by a local renaultsport specialist (Chris @ Beaniesport) who with his somewhat more expensive diagnostics found a code and cleared the code .
Brake Servo switch apparently!
Took about 1 min to plug the machine in and clear the code, ran it around for around 15 mins and no EML warning as yet .

Fingers crossed, and faith renewed in my bumper removal, xenon ballast pack replacement and bumper refit skills.

Thanks again for all your help and insight guys.Mission accomplished for now.

Mmmm - You have me doubting what I saw on the digs now but I am 90% sure thats what it said Apparently its a switch that sits behind the brake pedal somewhere.
I could see on the screen that the diags knew the pedal was being depressed and released but we couldn't get the management light on
again no matter what we did with the brake and its been clear since Friday so I suspect "a glitch in the matrix" is responsible.
