engine detailing

  corsa ecoflex
Ok so tomorrow is the day i want to start detailing the engine bay and wanted to know the best way to do it,also what products i should use..Also im gonna be respraying the engine cover to match the car but the engine itself is all filthy and nasty looking from where the cover is of,how can i polish it or do i need to send it to a polish specialist...sorry in advance for all the questions i just want to keep my new 172 looking good

  Shed.
All purpose cleaner.
Autoglym engine and machine cleaner.
A toothbrush to agitate the above with.
Lots of cloths.
Bowl of warm water.
A spray bottle.

Polishing you can send somehwere else as it takes a long time to do it from what i hear.

As above,

Auto Glym Engine & Machine cleaner
Megs Super Degreaser
A couple of brushes
Hose/jet wash
Auto Glym Rubber & Vinyl cleaner / Super sheen

Make sure engine is cold!
Check all air con caps are tight, nothing loose.
Cover up any electrics/alarm with plastic bags
Spray AG E&M cleaner / Megs SDG all over engine bay, underside bonnet
Agitate with brushes
Rinse with hose/jet wash
Spray AG V&R / SS all over engine bay, and leave.
JOB DONE!

You can really go to town if you want, mine if properly polished (albeit now with the PC) sealed and waxed like the rest of the paint, all plastic covers were removed, cleaned and treated, all screw heads and exposed metal sprayed with WD40 etc...does look a hell of a lot better and should help keep away any rust.

I found a soft paint brush the best tool to agitate, for £1.99 you can get packs in different sizes, beats a toothe brush hands down. :D

I try and do it using as little water as possible in small sections.

Spray a small amont of Autogylm degreaser on a chosen area, agiate with a soft brush for a few seconds to start it working, rinse of with a small amount of water or even better just a damp cloth, dry as best you can with a towel, move onto the next area. Doing a small area at a time saves gettingt he whole engine and parts you dont want to get wet.

Cover anything you dont fancy getting wet with plastic bags or cling film if your really worried.

After dress plastics and hoses with something like Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber, polish the paintwork with Autoglym Super Resin and any shiny metalwork such as the aircon pipes with metal polish.

Cleaned using the above method:
