engine cutting out after 6rpm

the shift light and the engine light flashes and it just kills the engine revin any higher! The garage says the 1st lambda before the pre cat replacing but im not sure this will cure the problem. Anyone got any ideas or had this happen to the 182?cheers jon

Who are "The Garage" ?!

Do NOT take it to Renault .. where are you based ? Take it to a specialist, or someone with a code reader and find out what the problem is before you start changing half the car.

just a local garage i use. I have had the code read and it comes up with lambda sensor! do you think this could cause the car to cut out at high rpm?

Had the same problem but mine happened at 3rpm...not ideal in a 182 as you know.

The fault said Lambda sensor and i went with it, got both sensors changed up which i got for around £100 and been fine ever since.

fault says mines the first lambda sensor got quoted 80 to do it no sure if to take the chance and get it done

Well I re-set the code to see if the engine management light came back on which it did, then i thought im never going to get to the bottom if it untill i change what is saying is wrong with it and then keep going from there....can become expensive but luckily mine stopped at some new sensors.

For £80...i prob would bite the bullet and change the sensor, you have to start somewhere right

i reset the code and the light came back on!Just mechanics have put doubts in my mine saying its not the lambda and i dont have the greatest knowledge so its a hard choice what to do....I will get a new sensor fitted and hope it sorts it

That's the expensive way to fix things.

I the code reader says it is the lamda then reset the ecu and for a new sensor. Win

Then afterwards give it a good drive for 15-20 mins and let everything heat up as the Lambda will start reading the gases, depending on what sensors you get gases have to be really hot for them to be fully efficiant. This should then start to give your engine the readings its looking for and then try taking it above the 6 rpm.

cheers for the advice i hope it cures the problems because i dont have a clue what else it could be

if you're only using a code reader, you'll never get to the bottom of it. You need to analyse live data dfrom the lambda to see if it's working

Personally I think it going to be something separate to that and the lambda just needs changing anyway. I'll bet the thermostat has never been changed

this confuses me more, you think it might be the thermostat mate?

didn't think it used the lambda sensor at full throttle and/or high rpm? it runs open loop iirc

hmmmm so its not the lambda then,im really unsure what to do now..when i first had this problem i dropped a full can of coke in the drinks holder after that it started i dunno if ive messed anything up under there

possible, I thought it was just the airbag ecu under there.
have you tried cleaning it?
with the lambda you can swap them over (pre and post cat sensors) even if its just to prove weather its duff or not, at least you won't waste any money that way

yeah think it is just the airbag ecu, think the main ones in the engine bay, havent tried cleaning it yet!might try and swap the sensors over tmoro and take it out for a run....
