Cub's Caged Flamer. Detailed.

Epic little car this. We had two days to do it so a bit more time could be spent to prepare it for Le Mans. Sorry for lack of process pictures, we just kind of cracked on and did as much as we could.

Cub had admitted that it hadn't been washed properly in his ownership, tut tut, so the Flame Red paint was quite dull as a result.

The decontamination process on it alone took some proper man hours, many hits of iron x and tardis. So many big thick tar spots. The car looked dramatically improved upon even after just that.

Not exactly rancid but you can see the lifeless paint..

Car was treated with Citrus pre wash, rinsed and then foamed...

The car was then washed with the usual 2BM, the door shuts and under bonnet area were also all addressed. Rinsed off again and the decon stage started...

Once I was happy that the clay wasn't picking anything more up (hours later) the car got foamed and washed again..

Then the headlights were attacked as they were seriously pitted and murky..

You will see how brilliant they came up in the finished pictures

Car was rinsed off again then patted dry, then I got the paint depth gauge out to assess the paint, was fairly healthy and consistent in most areas..

Two stage polish starting with wolfs then Mezerna. The car was then cleased and protected with the last of Gally's special brew wax, interior was spruced, wheels protected, windows cleaned, plastics and tyres dressed, grill taken out and painted satin and exhaust polished back up to ultra shinyness. The colour looked simply amazing. I love Flame Red.

It's the only time I wished it wasn't summer, we just didn't have time to take it under some sodium lights to really bring this fantastic colour to life! Damn these long days haha.

Car really does look superb though mate, the difference back to back was mental. The difference in the depth of the colour was great.

What was the process on the lights, Ant? W&D and polished back up? Mine need doing, desperately, so it's not just Renault items that haze over time!

Yeah wet and dry progressively up to 2000, then two stage polished back to life. Whilst that was going on, I removed the front grille, de-greased, pressure washed, scotch padded and added five coats of satin black. Front end looks like it's been replaced TBH.

Also turns out that the coating on the side 2.0 badges responds fairly well to metal polish. Oli's were insanely pitted and beyond saving completely, but they certainly got a lease of new life.

Cheers for the comments guys. Its a shame the sun didn't come out to play for the photos, but the guys did an unbelievable job.

Agree with Bobert Mugabe, the front end looks like its been replaced. The lights were awful, the grill was a light grey and crap and tar all over it was ridiculous. I'm over the moon with it, and I normally focus on track and ignore the 'detailing' side of life

I'm converted, and won't leave it as long before giving it some tlc.
