Coolant low in 182

  RS Clio 182
My coolant level is pretty much on the minimum when i checked last week on my 182 - so i bought some 'Carplan premium red' anti-freeze after asking the guy in the shop. Is it just a case of topping it up or do you have to drain it first? Ive read that Renault type d coolant is better...would you recommend me buying that instead? I dont want to damage the engine by mixing coolant etc. :S

How do i know whats in there though? you wouldnt use that Carplan stuff then?

The point being that if you don't know then you need to drain and replace.

As for the coolant, I went for type d from the dealers , 5 litres pre mixed wasn't expensive.

If it's on the minimum mark it's hardly missing any, you could top it up with that stuff you've got, you could get some Renault coolant or you could just use a bit of water, it's not going to hurt it.
