clio williams engine/gear box

A friend of mine has a clio mk1 (origonaly 1.2) that has had the williams engine put in, the problem lies with his gear box, its dead (so I've been told) and he's having trouble finding a replacement williams gear box, so was wanting to know what gear boxes will bolt onto the williams engine?

A JB3 from a Mk1 16v will bolt straight on, and are common as muck. Probably his best bet. Williams box is a JC5, similar to that in a mk2 RS.

What are his symptoms of the box being dead? The diff circlip is a common issue, resulting in loss of drive.

not sure what the symptoms are, i will find out more about it asap

yeh could well be a popped a circlip which is an easy fix!

whats involved with replacing this circlip? is it in the diff its self?

best thing to do is to manouver it back into position and spot weld it to the diff.
Remove passenger drive shaft, and you'll see it.
