Clio 182 problem!

  Renault Clio 1.6
Hi All,

Been having a few issues with the old 182, I'll try my best to describe the issues and maybe someone can help me figure it out!

Right the car has always had a lumpy idle since I have had It the last 2 months, it normally flags up an engine light saying misfire. I checked the map sensor replaced the spark plugs checked the lambda sensor, inlets checked (recently had the alternator and battery changed as the car died on me aswell) and a general check over of obvious things but still the fault is there! It drives perfect other than that with no issues just the idle until recently tonight I had this strange error :

Started my car up after work tonight ready for my 10 mile trip home, drove up the road onto the motorway dropped it into 5th and wacked the cruise control on at 40mph as it's average speed cameras all the way down to my junction. A minute or two into this trip on the motorway my engine light started flashing on and off, I stayed at 40 and as soon as I got out of the speed camera zone I put my foot down to go up to 70 and the car sounded like a helicopter with a loss of power. I dropped down to 3rd and the same thing happened, I managed to pull over and I turned the car off waited a minute then started it up again no change in response. Went off again and up the slip road for my junction pulled over again popped the bonnet with the engine running and it sounded rough with a tapping noise coming from under or nearby the air induction area, dropped the bonnet and carried on home, when I got about 2minutes from home I thought maybe it's the dephaser messing around (I hadn't been under 1500 revs really since the journey started) so I lowered right down to 1000 revs and then went back up and the car jumped back into life all the power returned and it was ok plus the warning light disappeared?! It's parked up now as I'm home but can anyone work out what this could be? The sound from inside the car was like driving at 10mph in 5th gear coupled with a helicopter sound like you would get driving on a motorway with the window down and I had little to no power response from the throttle. I literally thought the air intake had fell off! Haha. Any help is appreciated sorry for the essay!

Hi Woody
I think you need diagnostics to get at the fault codes which will have been recorded.
You can get cheap OBD2 reader to do this yourself , there may be a member with a OBD2 reader near to you who could help you out? or as last resort get to a Renault dealer (who'll charge you £40-£50).
I think its pointless guessing, buying and changing anything until you can identify the problem area - which is why these diagnostics are incorporated.

Took the car down to the Renault specialists in Rugby and found it was a faulty injector so it runs great now :)
