Clio 172 Fuel Pump Noise.....

Im considering buying a 2003 black 172. Went for a test drive last week, great car, great sound, very powerful. When the car was idle (from inside the car) I noticed a sound coming from the left hand side of the engine (near ECU). Sounded kind of like the noise halogen tube light makes. The guy told me that it is the fuel pump which apparently made this noise when he got it and all other clio's 172's do it. He said that its nothing to worry about.

Could anybody let me know whether it will be a problem down the line, if its comon and not a problem to fix/change?

Thank you

Brock

Thanks rob. Problem is that in my country (Malta) there is only one other 172 + a 182. :)

Cheers

i thought the fuel pump was just behind the driver seat! ontop /in the tank?i think the noise is prob the throttle butterfly motor! right hand side of the inlet manifold.

  BMW M135i
The fuel pump is immersed in the tank with all clios as far as I know, not sure whats around that area that could be making the noise.

The fuel pumps is under the rear seats it sounds more like the relay wheich are next to the battery under a plastic cover maybe at fault they can fail a bit.
Steve your pump should be fine stock pump has 120 liter an hour capacity which is about 330hp. Anyway you can upgade to an mitsubishi evo pump very easily thats what Matt blakc has done on his car. Look ion the Demeon Tweeks catalogue there sell ones which can pump about 500hp worth of fuel.

So anyone got any idea what this humming sound could be when idle?? Definitely not the exhaust back box.
