Hi all. New to the club with my recent purchase, a 172 cup.

Only the one bad iPhone photo, I'll update once I have some decent ones after a proper clean/protection. It's on 64k FSH) needing a cambelt, already made enquiries on here about doing a proper job, any advice would be apprieciated. One problem is an very uneven idle when warm, quite jerky but not near stalling. It also slightly struggles to start from hot, but only if left for about 20 mins. I've read that wrong plugs may be a contributing factor to this so I will make this the first thing to do. My question is, if it has not had a cambelt yet, is it possible that the timing has somehow retarded, therefore giving me the issue?

My plans are to get it running spot on and then a wheel refurb (possibly anthracite), possibly a 182 interior and maybe uprate the gearbox bushes. Don't really want to do much more as I don't think it needs it! Cracking little car and couldn't be more happy with it.

Welcome :) Very nice cup! As far as I've seen all RS's have lumpy idles, but easiest fix is usually plugs, only one set works well iirc.

Plans sound good too :)

Love this cup. Looks awesome

Been looking myself at these as need another car for the missus

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Welcome mate.
Due to cambelt been cheaper on Cup, I'd 110% take it to a specialist. Once you purchase parts, you realise specialists charge about £10 labour on the Cup. ( obviously exagerrated, but you get the idea)

Welcome mate, car looks good and as people have said they all suffer from a lumpy idle, you just have to get used to it lol

Enjoy the site :)

Thanks dudes, I know the idle is lumpy but this is just rediculous. Car has a bit of a cough starting from cold but fine, once its warm it idles like its almost running on 3. I'll have to get a video I think. Also starts perfect from hot immediately after turning it off, but struggles if you leave it for more than 10-20 mins. Strange. I might try replacing the plugs as I've read they are very picky with them.

Is there anyone on the site who can supply the parts needed for a cambelt? User name would be great so I could PM.

And no the user name is just a generic one I use everywhere :)

3 things that need sorting, firstly a wheel refurb as they are shocking!

Then the headlights need sorting, I am thinking wet sanding followed by mop

And lastly, although its small, the "2" from the 172 on the passenger side is half missing

But firstly it's into a Renault specialist from CS.net for a cambelt/aux/dephaser change :)

The clean has definately sealed the deal. Its f**king awesome.
