Clio 172 cup shocks oil or gas?

  Renault Clio 182
hey guys. Sorry to make your eyes roll, but just dug out my garage some hardly used 172 cup shocks, they have good resistance both up and down but don't rise up by itself, if they are basic oil then that's fine but need to know if they are gas then they need throwing away.

Thanks in advance
