CJGREEN's Black 182

  Mk4 XR3i 90 - spec
Click on my hyperlink earlier in this thread. And from personal experience you will be suprised about just what garages do.
I am not saying you have to have it done at a specialist, each to their own, however I know where mine car goes.

CJGreen, your clio looks in tip top condition, hope it all goes well and you get the RS192 zorst. I don't think anyone is having ago at you about taking your car to where you are taking it, they just want you to know, as this sort of thing has happened so many times in the past.

I can guarantee i wont be suprised what some garages are like, i work in the motor trade. But its not always a case of something being done dodgy, usually its just doing what has to be done.

Why exactly is the cambelt kit so expensive for Clio's anyway?

Renault i guess, because for the belts atm i think it costs around £250 for the genuine ones. Plus the other parts you need on to unless they are inculded (sp) in the kit, could do with some clearing that for me, but is definately the higher side of £250 just for the belts.

I know people aren't having a go, and i really couldnt give to flying f***s if they were. Its my car, and ill take it where i like.

As for the exhaust, i need to double check with insurance first. But either way it needs swopping cos the one on atm is more exhaust filler than metal haha.

Could do with hearing some in person before buying cos i dont want it overly loud for daily driving.

I didn't say only specialists had the correct tools, but its pretty unlikely that a back street garage will have them and will more than likely adopt the tippex aproach.

All I'm trying to do is offer friendly advice, personally couldn't give a s**t where he takes it.

Its actually a Citroen specialist garage, so french based. And aint a "back street" garage.

I know its all "friendly" advice, but just seems people like paying through the nose for a job, thats done on every car, and as always, varies in price everywhere you go.

Picked car up 8.30 this morning and its running nice a smooth.

Office staff under quoted me so ended up paying £362 in the end. Which is still not bad.

Next thing that needs doing is exhaust as its falling to bits!

  Inferno 182 & Saxo
Is that for cambelt, aux kit or just an aux belt change? and also did they do the water pump?
What exhaust you thinking of going for?

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
Cambelt and Aux pal. No water pump as doesnt seem like it needs doing...

Exhaust wise ive looked at a few different ones, but as mentioned in my request thread in the Exhaust section i want something with slash cut tails.

Had a few quotes off places that make custom exhausts for around £290-£350 depending on what spec i choose.

That looks awesome dude! What did you use polish wise? EGP then SRP?

Potentially picking up a 182 FF tonight myself, so will be giving the paint a good polish at the weekend!

EGP?

It has been polished with SRP but only a very light quick coat. Needs a proper good machine polish to get rid of the swirls but gonna pay a mate to do that for me so i dont mess it up.

looking good dude, how's it treating you?

Very well thanks mate, its getting there. Be alot happier once exhaust is done and it has some decent tyres on it. (Is this the Postman Matt off BBG old skool days? haha)

Ahhh fair enough. Nope not got that.

Im in the process of buying bits to build up a decent amount of kit for cleaning atm, just waiting on payday again now haha.

Bit of an update.

Sorted out the pissing headlight washers, and they actually spray the lamps now too.

Also swopped sidelights to my LED White ones and my Headlights to the 6000k bulbs i bought.

The bulbs are such an improvement and highly recommend, especially for £15! And obviously the sidelights look better than the orangey ones.

Need to buy some more polishing and waxing products, along with some 6000k temp main beam bulbs, and maybe fogs for country road blasts at night!

Went to Pipewerx in Oldham today about looking at some tips for the exhaust system and picked out some nice ones. Should be rinding them back this week about getting booked in to!

Also u need to get some more pics up and maybe a vid when the zaust is on lol

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
More photos will follow tomorrow mate, gonna give it a massive polish and wax if the weather is well to nurse my hangover.

The exhaust is going to be cat-back, full custom exhaust with my chosen tips (which i think will suit it awesome!) for £350 fully fitted.

Cant believe how much better the headlights look and show up more with the 6000k bulbs in. Ill try get some decent pics of them tomorrow night too!

Dan

  Yozza'd Blue Bus
Cool Lookin forward to some pics then :)

That's a good zaust price fitted! Did they ask what sorta sound u wanted it to make I.e. More rasp or lower tone??

Ye im gonna ave to get some stronger bulbs soon because I do tend to have the odd night time hoon lol

U comin to the big Chester meet next sat??

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
If its in the afternoon yea, ill post likely be working a 8am-12 noon shift at work, so yea possibly! Be good to see some other clios and grab some decent photos, and obviously meet some good people too!

The exhaust price is fitted and made to my spec. So yea, gonna ask for it to have a nice burble ticking over, but not too loud all the time!

That looks awesome m8 makin me think I should have got a BG instead of my arctic lol

The exhaust sounds good im just about to get somethin myself but makin me mind up ATM :S lol

Them clay bars get pretty dirty don't they did it make a big diff??

Also the meet is at 11 but we are headin to oulton park and won't be leaving there till about 2ish I would say

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
I only finish work at 12noon, so would be at Oulton by 1.30pm with any luck.

The claybars are mint, if your gonna take the next step with after care. Its amazing how much more crap they take off after snow foam, shampoo and scrubbing down!!

Heres another photo (crap iPhone quality) of the 6000k bulb upgrade:

Im so happy with them, so much more light on the road and they look mint along side the LED white sidelights from the outside!

  350z GT
But what if the dephaser starts to fail in say 6-12 months??

And you have to pay for the belts to be done again so that can be changed?? :/ surely its cost you more in the long run...

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
Not really cos i got the belts done for £350. So when the dephaser gets done, ill only be paying what everyone gets ripped off for at cliosport specialists.

  350z GT
so its what....another 250ish to have your dephaser changed...

which means i paid less than you at a specialist :/

  350z GT
Fair enough :)

wasnt trying be be clever or anything was just curious if knew is all...

Car looks nice anyway dude :)

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
No worries pal. Just trying to get the main jobs sorted, then i can go back through the smaller easier jobs onces its actually safe to drive.

There is history with the car but like mentioned, there was nothing about belts, brake discs/pads and the exhaust was patched up with loads of putty.

Its all being done to a budget so i need to make sure i still have enough to run it for the rest of the month after doing jobs on it lol.

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
Fitted my fancyplates today. So much cleaner now, especially on the front end.

Removed the front pipe off the airbox too for some mint noises up front.

Exhaust is going on tomorrow so plenty of photos and videos to follow!!

  Vectra GSI
Fancy seeing you on here, Cars looking well. Did you get the 3/4 plate for the front? Thinking of getting one for mine too.

Rennie.

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
Ey up Rendog! Hows it going? haha

I did get a 3/4 one but was too small so re-ordered the one mentioned in the guides section, think its approx 580mmx84mm if i remember correctly.

Cannot wait for the exhaust to be done tomorrow!!

  Vectra GSI
Yeah not too bad mate, plodding along as usual, all good with yourself? I see your still spot on with the Camera.

  '03 MCS, MKV Ed30
Yes mate all good with me, just proper skint getting this motor sorted! haha. Need more hours at work i recon :S

Thanks for the comments on photography, shouldn't be too long till you see some shots in Golf+ and the likes ;)

Will upload a full report of getting the exhaust done yesterday!
