Car not firing up

Parked up today in a car park and went shopping when I came back it wouldn't start but was turning over. Got it home and realised that there was no coolant in the header tank so I filled it up to see if it was leaking and realised that is was leaking out of thermostat, the plastic housing has cracked and allowed all of my coolant to leak out while I was parked would this prevent the car from starting ?

This is a 1.2 16v I guess? If so no, coolant level will not inhibit the vehicle starting.

It's a 1.2 16v expression .

The stat leak is a very commin failure I'm afraid.

Replaced the thermostat and new coolant, started up fine.
