cambelt with all the trimmings...

  bg 182
my car has done nearly 60k and has no evidence that the cambelt has been change so im going to get it done, i was also thinking about getting all the other usual parts replaced too.
i asked for a quote to get the following done: water pump, fresh coolant, cambelt kit, aux belt kit and dephaser pulley and got a quote back of nearly £800!
i dont have a spare £800 in my pocket so im trying to work out what is really vital to get replaced, as far as the dephaser, im not 100% sure it actually needs replacing i hear a faint noise but nothing like what iv seen on here/youtube,now i do not know the ins and outs of an engine but after looking a many thread i figures that the cam belt and aux belts are a given replacement, does the water pump have to be replaced? iv read through different threads with mixed responses also can the daphaser pulley be replaced easily enough at a later date by any mechanic or does this also need specialist tools? can anybody recommend the best places in or around the midlands to get my cambelt done?

thanks for any help Dan

If the dephaser fails at a later date, another full timing belt change is needed. When replacing the timin belt a decent specialist will check for signs of play in the dephaser. Bring it to BTM in B'ham.

water pump is a rare issue and not a cambelt off job to change later. Not necessary IMO.

Dephaser is only needed if it's noisy, or if you're on particularly high miles, or oil changes have been neglected for an extended period. it is however a cambelt off job to change at a later date

dephaser is a must, all the cars i see that haven't had it done are funnily enough coming to our place with rattling dephasers, and people say they're not neccesary - REALLY!

skip the waterpump, its rare

we're £650 for cambelt kit, aux belt kit, dephaser, oil and filter, timing belt end cam seals and core plugs, inc 12months warranty and VAT

Wish I had done this!

Cost me near on £1k, 2 aux belts kits, a replacement alternator beaaring and then alternator mount got damaged (luckily aux belt did not take out cam belt).

You always learn the hard way!
