Cambelt Change

  172
The warranty is proper warranty. It covers everything, If anything breaks its down to them to sort it out.

Exactly. If it BREAKS.

If you did actually mean it is more comprehensive than 99.99% of warranties and coveres wear and tear, then perhaps you can share the name of the warranty providor with us? I personally wouldn't mind a car with a warranty that covers tyres wearing out, brake pads wearing out, filters reaching the end of their life etc.

A car that you NEVER have to spend any money on apart from petrol, insurance and tax. Ideal.

Infact if it does cover "consumables" you may as well just book 5 track days in your 3 months and have great fun destroying a set of tyes/pads on track then you can, according to yourself, claim brand new tyes, discs, pads, engine oil etc all for free!

I really do want you to enjoy the car and have a trouble free experience - it's just some of us are better at spotting pitfalls/small-print/things-you-haven't-thought-of-because-you're-so-excited-about-getting-an-RS-clio than others.

Steve, what else would need to be done apart from cambelt & aux? Last week they changed the cambelt on a Renault Sport Spider, Not sure those tools would fit? In his words, "they will be using the correct Renault tools."

Needs to be a cambelt kit rather than just the belt. Also an aux belt kit rather than just a belt. Kits contain pulleys, tensioners, seals etc. Changing the dephaser pulley is optional (but assuming you don't know the cars history) it's probably worth while.

If you really must ignore all of us please check:

They are using all of the above (and not cheap pattern parts)
Have the three correct tools that are from reno (again not cheap pattern parts).
Have got the correct manuals for the F4R engine.

Assuming all of the above it's not rocket science but is still a mission.

I trust my local mechanic and he's a neighbour too. I still took my car to birchdown to get the belts done. reason being, I asked for advice and listened. I let my mechanic do everything else (to my car). just not that.

Okay, They're changing it (I got a refundable deposit) when I go to test drive this weekend, give it a thrash about, listen for knocking etc. If I don't feel happy with it, I wont buy it. Thanks for your advice.

You won't know that it's not correctly timed until you take it to a rolling road. Or get it checked by a specialist.

stupid troll is stupid to be honest.
regardless of what car's they have worked on, they clearly aren't going to have worked on one of these after saying the engine must come out, and it will inevitably go wrong, where you'll be whining again about how we should've advised you to go elsewhere.

jon_r post spot on-

You want either Renault or Gates parts-
Cost is ~ £270 or £420 ish with degayser-- which is why its suspiciious when a garage says it will do them- because they wont want to pay circa £600

possibly the easiest car to do a cambelt on, SO much room. also completely different to an F4R. I have a spider engine in my mk1 clio ;)

I wondered why this was on 3 pages for such a simple question.

Glad to see you're taking the advice mate. It makes no difference to anyone on here what happens, people are just trying to help you out.
