Cam Belt change on mk1 172

Hey guys,

Just got some bad news about my mk1 172, unusual noises under the bonnet, so when to renault, cam belt needs changing, idler pulleys need changing and alternator. It has only done 31,500 is this common with you guys?

Came very unexpectedly and expensively at £650!

You guys had any engine issues with ya mk1 172s?

Also the rear passenger side wheel groans alot, doesnt seem to be the bearing or the tyre rubbing on the bodywork, very noticeable at about 40 and 70! Any suggestions?

Best ring somene up who is cheaper Im sure its just the idler tightener that needs replacing but if there doing that might as well have the belt changed.

Try GDI for a better price and service than Renault.

Might be the anti roll bushes need greasing.

Got my cam belt last month only£17 and tentioner was £39 ok there was labour on top of that but not £650 worth!!

the renault cam belt kit comes with 3 tensioners/runners and 1 x cam belt.. that is about £150 ish...

(also the kit from renault is guaranteed )

fitting is about 5.5 hrs

Got mine done at 50k from where i got it .

30k seems low, however its possible... worth getting a stethoscope on it for a propper listen
