buying a car with private reg

Buying a car next week which has a private plate,
the owner is currently in the process of getting the private plate reverted back to the original,
but if this is not done before i purchase the car, can I tax the car, with the new system?
and can I even buy the car without the new V5C
any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Technically You wont be able to - you will have none of the serial numbers to put in on the dvla website.

Technically its still taxed until you buy it so you could run the gauntlet of driving it home but its not worth the risk-

I've just done the same. I'm waiting, just left a deposit and I'll be back when the seller has the V5 back. Annoying but that's life.

I'll have to wait, cars been sorn I believe as it's been off the road for a few weeks.
