Awful sound :(

Last night i was driving to the bowling place with 3 of my mates, i up front and 2 in the back, as soon as i set off all i heard when i went to put my foot down was crunch, bang, wallop etc....

Ive just recently put 17s on. Is this noise i was hearing the wheels rubbing on the arches (because of the weight in the back)?

Im getting it lowered in next couple of weeks, 30mm on eibachs, will this help or make things worse???

Its a very very bad sound when wheels scrape..

If it is scraping, lowering will make it worse..

I remeber putting bigger wheels on my punto and it made funny noises for a few weeks but settled. If your wheels are rubbing Id imagine there would be some marks on the tyre or guard. If it its rubbing lowering is definitley not gonna make it better.

What offset are the wheels? And are they 17 x 7 or 17 x 7.5? I dont get any of this, even with 4 adults in the car.

Yep there 17x7, i believe there the correct offset as i bought them from a guy off here (gordr) and he specialises in tyres and rims so i dont see how there could be anything wrong with fitment. (Plus he had them on his Cup!)

Im confused, i only had two mates in the back and the noise was just unbearable over every pot hole, bump etc.

Im a bit clueless when it comes to this kind of thing

Could it have anything to do with the magnex???

Do you know what offset the wheels are Hannah? And, are the tyres 205/40/17?

<edit> are the springs on the car standard, or is it lowered at all?

Standard suspension, tyres are 205/40/17 but i dont know the offset. Ill have a look on the wheels today and see if i can suss it out!

You can chech the offset on the speedlines by taking a wheel off and it willl be imprinted on the reverse. My 16" Chronos are ET35 and have a 2mm spacer as part of the fitting kit. Makes me wonder whether or not speedline do ET37.

Im wondering whether the standard springs are a bit soft. I dont get this problem but I have Eibachs fitted. Although theyre a tad lower they get progressively harder as they are compressed - maybe this limits the travel of the wheel therefore preventing scrubbing.

Im assuming the wheels are around ET37 like mine though. If theyre not its probably just the offset.

^^^^ Agree.

but can you not just get spacers to sort it? Thats if its like 3/5mm out.
If your using the original bolts why cant you use spacers???

I will be ok with 2mm spaces wont I???

Also what offset do turinis have on cups???

you can just about get away with 5mm spacers on standard bolts but anythin bigger an you will need longer bolts

Depends on the bolts you have. I have tuner-style bolts with my wheels and the standard bolts (not lengthened ones) will accomodate my 10mm spacers with ease. A rule of thumb is that you must be able to get at least 7 full turns of the thread to make sure the bolts are secure.

Probably not what you want to here!

BUT...

Your Turinis are ET35....and....when I spoke to Speedline UK before I got mine they did say that they had experience rubbing on Clio Cups with 17s with ET35 offset.....He did say it was mainly on the front when the wheels were on full lock. Thats why he reccomended to me that I go for the ET42 especially if it was going to be lowered!

If I were you I wouldnt lower it unless you were to get the front and rear arches rolled!!

Thought this may be the case. Glad I stuck with 16s. Though maybe with a small spacer the effect of this maybe reduced??? or even go completley???
