anyone using 888's on there 16" wheels?

  XC90, 330d, Trophy’s
been looking at tyres for the car, its a cup packed car so the current tyres are 205/45's.

im anting something with a decent compromise of track tyre with a little road use, although i can predict the car will be fully gutted and commited to being a track car within a few months.

my debate, as a few tyres have popped up within the similar price range.

i had considered the Federal 595RS, but just been told its only remainin stock as they are being faded out now.

Yoki Parada's
Yoki AD08's
Toyo T1R
Toyo R1R.

not really had much experince with any of the above, so it had me looking at the 888 options.

closest match they do is a 195/50/16.
now, knoiwng the 888 is a generous width tyre, its likely to be wider than a 195, but just shy of a 205.

205/45 sidewall height will be 92.25mm
195/50 sidewall height will be 97.5mm

anyone running any of the above with good results?
anyone running that size 888 and find them to be ok, no rubbing, decent feedback etc etc.

Cheers :D

Has anyone bought tyres off this site?

Looks like a good price for the AD08 in 205 45 r16 83w. I'm not needing new tyres quite yet but this tyre was no1 on my list as a road/track all-rounder now that the PE2 is no longer available. I hear it is a great dry weather biased tyre, lots of feel and grip and only a little noisier than more regular tyres (EVO test 2010)

Nathan, one quick question for you buddy.

Is your car still at the standard height, and if not do you think there is still enough grace within the arches to allow for a set of Eibach springs to be fitted?

Cheers ;)

Its a standard car, more than enough room.

Down side is sourcing 15's and the relevant 888's ready to leave for the ring this weekend.

I can get 888's for the 16's to my door for end if play tomorrow.
But don't want to buy them just to find everything is rubbing :(

nathh, how does the trophy drive on the 888's i am tempted to get a set, but i have read mixed opinions about them.

Anyone able to help.

Is my car likely to rub if I fit 888's in 195/50/16 form on a Eibach sportline lowered car?

Cheers, bit desperate to find out now :(

  XC90, 330d, Trophy’s
I don't have time to start huting for other options.
I really want maximum grip as the car is going to be 90% a track car as time progresses.
I also need to order tyres early tomorrow to ensure they arrive and on the car ready by close of play Friday.

Never even heard of the Hancock tyres you mention.
As we all know, 888's are a great trackday tyre.

Sorry if I sound a bit arsy, I'm certainly not wanting it to read that way, I'm just running out of time to get things sorted out.

Cheers :)

888 are a good track tyre and if you lived in Spain or somewhere equally as hot then yeah use them all the time. Over here generally the weathers crappy so wouldn't be the tyre of choice. just get cheap road tyres and 888's for track, simples.

racetyres.com have 888 and advans in stock in 195/50/16 dont know prices though, you will have to email them.....
doubt u will have rubbing issues with a 50 profile on sportlines theres loads of room!!!
other option is to go for a fast road tyre which will be about 50% cheaper and perform better if the weather is s**t??!!

Well, after a challenge and a half.
The car is now back on the ground wearing 15" turini's, 195/50/15 R888's, wilwood 4 pots, New suspension, bucket seat now firmly bolted in place and all ready to go.... All apart from the harnesses and fixing point to take care of.

Why o' why do we try to achieve such silly things in short timescales

Now just to hope for good weather at the ring :D

you are turning a 182 into a track **** kelv ?

good luck at the ring, sooo wish i was going but i aint got any cars ready for it either :wall:

we must catch up some day soon btw

I am indeed Ginge, going again in september with the Twins and Ronnie if you wanted to come along, we can do some more smooth laps and enjoysome late night beers again ;)

This was Kim's 182, took it to coombe a few weeks back and now gone silly with it, doesn't help that I was up at Porkie's yesterday evening and had to move his car, now I want the cage, lol.

It could be the Escos all over again..... Infact I've bought another Escos aswell

when in september are you going mate and how long for ,,,, i might be able to swing that if i crunch some numbers as ive practically sorted the car to be normal now ( if you ignore the dephaser pulley pmsl) and now im planning to fit the Pure racing wishbone bearings and strengthing plate, top mounts and then in the distant future doing the rear beam mod as i love my little clio and when the engine does go bang ill be fitting a 1.8 turbo Vag engine to it aslong as i got my impreza back on the road but for the main time though i have a car thats got new ball joints and rebuilt rack and all new bearings fitted so its alot better than it was

ps: did you get the lower ball joints sorted for it, i got mine from them 2 weeks ago and they was spot one,,,,,, unlike the bloody IAT sensor for the missus convertable :wall:

Ginge, I'll give you a shout buddy.

all good cheers mate, i think its about time one of the reputable cosworth tuners started looking into these clio's as we are all on here these days, lol

  XC90, 330d, Trophy’s
Twellsie, pushing at Martin on this subject already ;)

Kev, dont like the car on the 15's, looks like the wheels have shrunk, plenty of room for the 16's so they will be back on as soon as we return from the ring :p

Think there is enough Clio specialists on this site that we won't need others to practises at our expense, Fred seems a good chap and I remember Kam racing when I worked at bilstein before I was into clios and just take a look at pure handling stuff just shows we got enough on here to keep us going
