Is it true the Vauxhall Calibra was once the most aerodynamic (lowest drag) production car avaliable? I dont believe it but does any one else know different?
and did you know that brick-shaped Alfa saloon thats in the Italian job (the police cars), was as aerodynamic in the 1960s as the Sierra was in the 80s? (the Alfas CD was .30, and, twenty years later, so was the Sierras. Not bad eh?)
when they put their minds to it, they can be quite smart those Italians! (i say that speaking as a half italian!)
Funny innit - in the 80s, all the car manufacturers were banging on about cd figures (remember the 1982 Audi 100?) These days, you never see it mentioned or refered to in adverts. Times a changin!!
If its the Calibra, then I cant think of any mass produced car that had a Cd of less than .26. And the Astra...yeah, the GTE was aerodynamic...but then bear in mind its class comprised boxes that included the Escort and the Golf!
hmm, coulda sworn it was .26, but hey, whats a few cd between mates!
didnt the Calibra get into the Guiness Book of Records for having a low CD? But then that cant be right either because the 1982 Audi 100 already had a CD of .30. Ah, whatever; Im well confused now!
OK - Im probably wrong! For some reasons 0.31 sticks in my head though! What I know for sure is that the figure was used to advertise the car a lot. Remember the one with the Aboriginal bloke in a desert??
hi Ben, it may have been that the small engined ones had skinny tyres and maybe they were .26cd (making it the lowest cd of any mass produced car) and the bigger engined ones were .31cd, making it the lowest cd for a coupe? If only my memory was as good as it used to be!
