3rd gear trouble

I have not long bought a clio 172 and when I am in 3rd gear and I reach 5000rpm the car behaves as though I have redlined it, the first two gears are fine. What could this be?
Also there is a really annoying ticking sound when the steering wheel is turned left or right, any clues as what this could be?

clicking sound.. sounds like driveshaft/cv joint problems.. as for redlining early i'm not sure.

Similar problem hear mate, except in mostly in 2nd and 3rd and not always the same revs.

Booked in at renault newcastle (stoke on trent) for thursday hoping it will show up
