2002 Clio 172 - weekend toy

Picked this up yesterday as a project/toy for the weekend. I have wanted one since they first came out.
  • 107k
  • 12 months MOT
  • 4 almost new Toyo tyres
  • Some history, but I bought it in the knowledge that it needs a cam belt change (no evidence of a change) - any recommended specialists near Beds/Herts/Cambs?
So far I have...
  • discovered that the xenon bulbs are different colours
  • found a puddle in the boot
  • ditched the aftermarket head unit
  • removed the remnants of a DIY push button start and tidied up some wiring
  • made a list of broken or missing parts that need replacing
  • driven it!
Not sure whether to strip it out or keep it intact yet.

Looks very nice mate, I'm hoping to pick up a 182 soon, thinking of the track day route. I can recommend Beaniesport in Milton Keynes for any work you need doing, especially the big stuff like a cam belt change.

Had the car a month now and done a few things:
  • bodged the rear exhaust mount
  • with a bit of research, discovered that it had a cambelt, water pump and aux belt change in October 2016
  • replaced both xenon bulbs with new 5000K
  • removed the pressed metal plates and replaced with normal plastic ones
  • swapped the front seats for a better standard pair
  • fitted a pair of Bosch aero wipers
I took it to Beaniesport as recommended above and by other people for a once over and to check the timing. Excellent, friendly service and a got few things sorted out and some things pointed out to add to my missing/broken list. Nice to meet another forum member, @Rojer when I went to collect the car from Beaniesport yesterday.
  • confirmation of new belts and timing ok
  • new rear brake caliper and brake pipes
  • new undertray
  • fitted a standard head unit that Chris had lying around
I picked up a nearly new Powerflow exhaust this afternoon (from the forum ads) to replace the bodged rattly standard one.

Certainly more fun driving it knowing the belts are all good!

Good to meet you the other day, car looks really tidy it would be a shame to strip it all out. What are the plans moving forward?

An update...
  • bought some Turinis - need to swap the tyres over
  • replaced the radiator which was leaking
  • removed aircon pipe work - pipe was split
  • replaced the standard airbox which was non-existent
  • fitted Fabia splitter
  • yellow foglights - they remind me of my old R5 GTX
