Hopefully just a quick answer...
Before I picked up my 197 last Friday from a Renault branch. They done a service on the car. They have just sent the service sheet to me (Forgot to ask for it when i picked up the car)
They have used Elf competition ST 10w40 Oil. I know they recommend 5w40.
I emailed them to ask why this was and this is the response:
have spoken with my Service Manager and our Renault Master technician regards your enquiry.
The competition ST 10w40 Semi synthetic oil that is in your vehicle is an ELF lubricant recommended by the Renault network.
This will not cause any damage to the engine now or in the future and will not affect the performance of the vehicle.
Between Renault and ELF they suggest that all of our petrol engines can use either Competition ST 10w-40 or Evolution SXR 5w-40 unless in "severe conditions" which is not the case in our country.
Neither our technician nor company has made a mistake. As a Renault Sport specialist if we believed your vehicle would be affected by using this type of oil it would not have been used.
Is this correct?, as everything i am reading Manual / Renualtsport forums. The oil needs to be 5w40.
