Hi all,
What would you pick and why?
172 mk2 ph2(with the esp+ facelift) or rs200(regular no cup)

I think there is alot more 172's than 200's why is that?( over the world)

lighter cheaper and fun to drive better fuel economy.

I would have a 172 .. i got a trophy instead of the 197

I am biased but I say go with a 172 especially after a play with a 197 yesterday :). Considering what people value them at here you get a 172 with all of the work done for a great amount of cash.

Depends what you want from it. If it's a daily I'd take the 200.

If it's for track only 1*2 IMO.

I'll have to drive a 200 one of the days. Are they that much more pleasant for a daily? The dash is alot nicer I admit inside a 200.

I'd say so. Owned a 200 for some time and brother in law had a 172 cup which I drove a fair bit.

Never owned a 200 but do a 172. I used to think the 172 was noisy on long journeys however having driven a brand new astra gtc for a four hundred miles trip I take it back.
172 is fast handles well good on fuel and embarrasses allot of more expensive cars. The downside is you get no respect for driving a girly car as I keep getting told

If it's a 172 phase 2, you might as well go one up to a 182. But the phase 1 172s still look good. What I'm trying to say is the phase 2 standard lights are boring. Xenons or angel eyes are better.plus the 182 is just as light and with a bit more power.

If only go for a 200 if I got a good warranty and service deal. Nothing wrong with 200s but I'd rather have a proper old style hot hatch

I'm a true 172 lover. I genuinely think they are the best car for under £2,000. For any use!

However, a 200 is nicer to drive every day. Not to mention that the 172 looks proper old now.

For me after owning a 200 and various 172, 182s if you can afford the 200 then its a no brainer, its vetter in every way other than fuel consumption and of course straight line speed is debatable.

The 172 is a cracking car for the money and as daniel said i cannot think of anything else i would rather drive sub 2k!

Depends what it's for ?!

Daily 50 mile commute and fun at the weekend, or purely to smash lap records at the 'Ring ?

If you want/need ESP in a 160hp fwd hatchback, you're doing something wrong ! Ph1 172 FTW ;)

Clio 200 all day long. Up until yesterday I had both, a standard Cup Packed 200 and a fairly modified 172 Cup. The Cup Is more frantic and involving and considerably quicker in a straight line but comfort and effortless handling and insane grip make me jump in the 200 most days.
Cup has now gone for a 16v 106 Rallye. Money vs fun and speed they top a 172 (runs for cover)

Theres just something about the 1*2's that make me love them!

The 200 is a better looking car, but the little old rattlebox just sits there like, "come on then fatty, ill race ya"!

Dropping back into a mk2 the other day made me realise how old and small they feel.
