Ok people heres the situation!! :) ..........

I have a Williams engine ready to be installed into my valver!! :D Woohoo!! :)

However first i need to make some choices!!

One of the things i need is an ecu - it makes sense to me to simply order a stage 1 chipped ecu and be done with it!! :)

Anyone know how much this would be from Hill Power??

Secondly i have the option of fully rebuilding the engine, with a complete bottom end overhaul, lighting and balancing etc...

I think the engine has done 66k miles so is this worth doing?? ie Will i notice a great improvement by spending the extra to get this work done??

Or am i better off saving my money for now and just replacing all perishable parts?

The other thing i need is new hoses! Would like some blue silicon ones i think! :) Wheres the best place to get a set for a willy lump and how much are they??

Ok thats all i can think of for now! Any help answering these questions will be much appreciated!! :)

TBH unless u got some mods on it, and u pay the extra getting it unichipped i wouldnt bother with the chip. I had one after i had cams etc fitted, and it did nothing apart from raise the reve limit. and at the time my peak power was just under 7k anyway so no need to rev any further! Cost for HP chip is £150. The problem is unless u go for superchip or unichip they are not mapped specificly for your car, off the shelf chips arent the way forward IMO!

Problem is cant afford a unichip at the moment! Not cheap!

As for the engine 66k aint a lot and it should still be a good runner, my mate put a willy lump in his with higher millage, and just changed parts such as headgasket, clutch, mounts etc. Not had a problem with it If ur gonna have the engine rebuilt and balanced, u may as well get some cams put in there and get some headwork done as well!

Ok so i reckon ill go for a standard ecu then! :)

Wont be getting headwork or cams done at the moment so maybe at a later date!

Edging towards not getting it rebuilt now but still not 100% sure! :s

What advantages would a rebuilt give me?? Any power gains? Or just a smoother engine?

Glenn i can get you a full Samco kit for about £250 which is 30% discount on the normal price. Reason: I need to place a big order with Samco to get a trade acount and am offering the hoses at trade price to anyone that helps with this order.

Thanks Colin! :) Im assuming your kits will comprise all the hoses!?

ie

1. Main water hose set which contains the 2 main, complex water hoses
2. 5 Ancillary smaller water hoses.
3. 3 Oil breather hoses


If thats the case that undercuts buying them from K-tec massively!! :eek: (Ktec £346 for all hoses!!)

Glenn - you wont get any performance gains with a BE rebuild fella! in fact you will get reverse! These engines perform better with age - all the williams with 70k + are hitting well above 150bhp even as standard. Remeber also that you will have to run it in with a complete rebuild, at 66k its really not worth it m8 - its almost at its peak performace level.

Just replace the bolt on stuff, oil pump, water pump, clutch etc etc.... remember Glenn, your always welcome for a run in mine any time, i cant comment on the ECU thing becuase mine was chipped as part of the convertion - and im very happy with the way mine is currently running :devilish: (abit of a downer about the hoses tho m8, £225 seems alot to me - what are the advantages other then it looking nice under the bonnet?)

I have just had mine converted Glen and i aint bothered with a HP chip yet!!

I may get one in the next month or so but i wanna reap the benefits of having it standard for a while!!

I would definately reccomend getting the Cambelt n Tensioners, Water pump, oil pump, changed i also got a low temp thermostat and low temp fan switch too!!

I know that £250 is a lot of money for some silicone hoses but that is still over £100 + VAT less then i was quoted by renault to replace with the OEM ones which to be honest look pants!! iirc the main water hose was £87 + Vat alone!!

I think yours are probably like mine and are lined with rust!

So i will be changing them shortly but im gonna buy a couple of hoses a month then fit them all together at the end!!

Also i didnt bother with the bottom end rebuild for the reasons Rockport mentioned!! and it would of added another £400 to the fitting price with out parts!!

Yes Glenn that is all 10 hoses, but that price is only a temporary offer for our first order from Samco, but after that the price will go up, but I s won’t be as much as £346.

Smokey, the offer is open to you, but would only be on your first order.

Still going Glenn, just waiting for a cheque back that someone forgot to sign, should have got it this morning.

As for Charlottes hoses, they are good, just dont get enough, only about 4 or something.

It’s not the spamming thing, its cause I’m not a member I cant post more than once in 3 min.

To be honest with you there is not much more to say about the Samco deal. It is through my work this time (unlike the dials) which means you get all the support etc from a shop. Basically the deal is 30% of the retail price for Samco hoses and as soon as we reach our target then they get ordered. I have a few regulars that come into the shop already said they want to do it, and will have the cash at the end of the month. So you can phone the shop, 01292 610644 and pay by credit card and leave your addy and well get them sent out to you as soon as our order arrives. There will be a carriage charge to ship them to you from our shop.

TBT - its not "that" much quicker Glenn, its just the power is more effort less then the 16v. You notice more coming out of corners etc. From about 70mph onwards it seems to pull hard... hard to explain really

yeah im with Rockport on this one its well hard to exlain especially as all 3 times ive driven it it was pissing down with rain!!

But as an example i was o the A14 DC this morning in the inside lane pottering at 45-50 in 3rd at about 2.5k RPM (IIRC), i was indicating to pull over to fast lane as my traffic was stopping n there was an escort van who would not let me out so i just floored it up the ass of the guy in front n pulled straight out while mr Van was still trying to overtake me n i would never of been able to do that in the 1.8 as id have to drop it down a gear n wait for it to come on cam at 4.5kRpm!!

To me it has made it loads faster already just to have power below 4.5k is a gods send even if the rest is the same!!

Torque steer is a major problem thou but that will hopefully get sorted out once i have sourced some willy driveshafts, wishbones n hubs!!

Where bouts are ya mate? Id happily take ya out in mine!!

its not torque steer.

The drive train is almost symetrical and equal length, its jsut reastions to rd surface and cambers.

Smokey, ive been told that willy driveshafts,wishbones etc... are the same as R19 16v, so those can be found easily... or am i totally wrong?
