That I know of smart arse, I'm not in contact with every RS owner, are you?

The fact Fred knows off the top of his head the price of the unit would suggest it's not unusual to change them!

sorry wasnt suppose to be a smart comment, just a general comment.

it just didnt sound many cars thats all

although im still gona check tomorrow

i have 18 knackered dephasers in a box at work LOL, must be something in that northern air that is kind to the engines ;)

I've not dug around much as it's only just started to make a racket on mine. As I say that's me, fubar, the users I'm not going to name, Fred knows the price off the top of his head I've found out already so no doubt there are plenty more failing out there.

is that what they say is the lifespan on them??

No but if you go by Renaults schedule the belt is changed every 5 years or 72k. So potentially if you don't change the dephaser at the first belt change interval you may be asking the dephaser to last anything up to 10 years or 144k. Which let's face it is a little optimistic judging by Freds box.

I think all "specialists" should reccomend them to be changed on a 72k service

thats the difference between a specialist and a back street garage

ive seen loads of knackered pulleys ( so as mentioned must be a northern thing lol)

and as Fred said id be doing a every 6k oil change to make them last

as in my experiance its due to lack of changes that the depahser goes

as said in my last post we dont replace hardly any F4R dephaser pulleys, we wouldnt recommend replacing it unless it was noisy as SBV said (same with the water - if it aint leaking dont replace it) but each to their own, some people ask us to replace things for peace of mind and, hey, I aint gunna turn the business away!

you must be the luckiest renault dealer in the uk then! the trade hub up here has 20 of them on the shelf as its so common!

lol must admit the ratio of clio sports to megane/scenic 1.6's is like 1:10 so not surprising we see more dephasers on other engines really

i didnt even know the thing existed until a few weeks after my 72k service, too late then!!
