£3,500 for a new car, what Clio to buy?

  1.6 Focus, 1.6 122S
That's a bargain! Makes me think I paid a little too much (£3600 in Jan 2010) for my Blue Cup with 15000 more miles on it :/

Just out of interest, are you table to tell from the photo of the engine bay? The only thing I can see wrong (don't know the name of it) is the block that should be attached to the front of the manifold is missing.

It's because the stickers on teh front bumper are missing. So it has had the front bumper replaced atleast

Maybe he removed them to clean up the engine bay judging by how modified the rest of it is.

I dont think they are rare like sunflower is rare, but they are not as common as the other colours.

There not in the engine bay, they are on the front bumper, either side of the middle 'grill'

Bodyshops rarely notice them when replacing the whole bumper so don't stick them on. However when they have a respray its right in front of them, more obvious

Oh I know where they should be, but I still think it's possible he might have just removed them so it looks better when he has the bonnet up.

Why would it make a difference with the bonnet up? They are visible with the bonet down!

Right, I think we are talking about different stickers. In picture 7 on the advert on the left side of the black bit at the very bottom of the picture there is a sticker missing. Which sticker are you talking about the can be seen with the bonnet down :S

The very thin grill on the front bumper. I'll try and find a clear picture

Ahhh gotcha.

Going to check now if mine has them!

Edit: It does. I'll be sure to get them put back when I get my bumper resprayed in the near future.

Oh dear. Anyway, back on topic. I was just looking at pistonheads and found this.

Looks fantastic and could probably be haggled down the £99 if you could drive it away on the day.

Another good proposition. Certainly is a buyers market at the moment, I'm spoilt for choice. Still not 100% sure I could live with a cup. I like to drive close to the edge but maybe not enough to justify one at the expense of the 172 toys.

Thats my problem at the moment. Just come from a dynamique, so the interior is exactly the same so wouldn't feel like an upgrade. I do love the colour of cups though.

For 3k you could get ahold of a higher mileage 182 due a good service, then use the extra monies to take it to a specialist and have it brought mechanically upto date, any parking dings knocked out etc

The only thing I would really want on mine is AC and maybe the nicer seats. But I don't find the car difficult to drive without traction control or ABS. It's really not as hardcore as some would believe.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I looked at 3 over the weekend and had a hard choice between the silver Cup (discussed earlier in this thread) and a Monaco Blue 172. The Cup was 53 reg, had 60k on the clock and was very tidy apart from a palm print dent on the bonnet and a small scuff on one of the rear arches. The 172 was 02 reg, 50k on the clock and in good condition other than a few scratches. Both had recent MOT's and cambelt services, tax needed renewing on both in November.

I managed to agree £3,350 for the cup and £3,000 for the 172. Which would you have gone for and we'll see if I made the right choice? :)

I'd f got the cup, but if it was from a dealer i would of expected them to repair the damage.

I'd have gone with the Cup because of its rarety, but I have a feeling you went for the 172 for £3k as it was cheaper and you were on the fence. Great price for both though.

Haha so 3-0 to the Cup then :)

Well I'm afraid I went for the 172 but spent a while deciding. I knocked the seller down £600 plus I love the colour and prefer the alloys. I would have gone for the Cup but the dent in the bonnet and the price difference swung it for me.

Have already done 250 miles in her and am chuffed with the performance. Not as quick or as fun as the Vee on the straights but great on the bends. Here are a few pics prior to a detailing session later this week, will post the results in the media section when done:

Thanks guys, think it was the best all rounder.

With the money I saved, I'm about to order a new head unit. Going for the Pioneer Iphone one which is £230.00 delivered. Looks brilliant and plays video :)
