Renault wanted £200 for the service alone.

That's all work you could do yourself. Maybe get some supervision or advice before tackling the brakes, as you don't want to get that wrong. Wheel balancing shouldn't cost much £5 each, max.

If he hasn;t done this sort of work before, I would suggest some one help him who does know what they are doing. You only need to be shown once.

I'm brand new to clios and have never serviced a car/anything like that and have done all of the above except droplink by myself this week, with the help of the guides in the guide section, its pretty straightforward.
