Either an S3 in a few months or wait for about 3 years and get an RS5. can't currently decide. I suppose it all depends on how well the 172 holds out. currently on about 128,000
They've said they'll replace like for like but no mention of non UV strip. I've had a look myself and couldn't see anything though. I'm hoping i get a new gel pack out of it too
Hi guys,
I've managed to get a chip in my windscreen that needs sorting. I've been quoted £75 on insurance to replace it but the woman wasn't sure about rain sensor.
Do they replace the fittings as well usually? and the gel?
Cheers for the help guys. some really helpful comments, some comments that you'd expect from people not old enough to drive yet.
I feel my questions were justified. I've had 2 fuses blow on me since owning the car, both times stopping the car from starting. and to add to that, ive also had to...
Just paranoid. Drove to the south of France last year and alternator belt went. Massively screwed things up as French mechanics like looooon lunch breaks
So i'm planning a trip next summer in the car. it will be about 4,000 miles in total and i'm thinking about what needs to be done to the car to make sure that so much driving over the space of about 2 weeks won't kill it.
things i need to do anyway:
new tyres
full service
fix aircon
CV boots...
I love the car but there a couple of things i wish they'd included. Any other ideas?
Real time mpg - Don't know why they didn't include a setting to see how much fuel you're using in real time.
Decent cup holders - enough said
Electric folding mirrors
6 speed box - Could save so much fuel on...
yesterday she had a bit of work done:
cambelt, aux kit, dephaser, head gasket, head repair, discs and pads all round, exhaust centre section, spark plugs, ht leads, oil, filter and coolant.
fair bit of work! all courtesy of dan at sjm. top work
I was upgrading from a 106 GTi. the 106 actually feels quicker, especially at lower revs the power seems more available. But there are very few creature comforts in them at all and they're very very dated.
I always said whenever i buy a car, it will be faster than the last. will get tough as i...
yeh for a second hand one. That's what i'm currently planning on doing. but the lump will be about £600. The labour, belts and clutch was £800 (350 fitting, 450 for clutch, cambelt, dephaser and aux and MOT) from dan and then the transporting of the car to get it to him. Once all that is done it...
thats the current plan. there is still a chance it can be fixed without an engine replacement but i think its slim. unfortunately if not the replacement is about £1600 all in
Long shot. still considering whether it's worth selling or repairing mine
172 monaco blue, 53 plate. 2 owners including me. part service history. xenons, cruise climate and traction control. standard 172 leather and alcantara. wheelsa little kerbed but nothing major. it's about 116,000 miles...
i'm no expert but prefer the 53 plate 172 over anything. All the gadgets you want i.e cruise, climate and traction control. personally I've never been a fan of the twin exit exhausts on the clio. I think they suit the megane better.
could you mayeb save up a bit longer and keep your eye open...
i saw that and considered it. taking the engine from that and selling the rest of the car for bits.
I spose at the end of the day, i'm paying more for an engine replacement than i paid for the car. BUT, i'll have a good engine with a years warranty. The tax, MOT and cambelt were due anyway so...
unfortunately without a car, i'm pretty stuck for going to collect. plus with most people umptine miles away, i'd only be spending th delivery cost in fuel. the £600 engien comes delivered with 1 years parts warranty. It's the cost of the clutch and belts that tipped it way over for me. I can...
Need some advice guys. Is it worth repairing?
costs seems to be skyrocketing
i'm looking at about £400 in labour for transplant and belts/clutch
£600 for the lump. most cheaper seem to be lemons
£450 for clutch/belts parts
£100 transporting the car
also needs tax/MOT so antoher £170
that's...
Tried calling rentech but didnt get through so will try again tomorrow.
Iv'e heard a few people suggest getting a new 172. Is an engine transplant really that expensive? to get a new 53 plate 172 with CC, cruise and traction will cost me near on £2,000.
HAs anyone got a price list of things...
