Can't remount shock after fitting Eibachs

Cheers guys! Will give it a go. "I've broken my hubs, what do?" post in 3, 2...

Can't remount shock after fitting Eibachs

Yep, car is up on stands so suspension completely unloaded. Didn't think about the ARB so might disconnect it and try again. Failing that I'll go full r****d strength on it.

Can't remount shock after fitting Eibachs

Tried fitting some Sportlines this weekend, rears went fine but the fronts... Ignoring the driver's side being siezed to f**k on the P side the shock bottom now sits too low to be remounted on the hub. Any ideas? I re-assembled the shocks to make sure I hadn't screwed up and compression clamps...

Do I need a fuel rail guard?

I'd have thought a sufficiently nasty crash would bust that aluminium thing anyhow. I kind of agree though, Renault did put it there for a reason and these cars do score high on NCAP. Maybe I'll dig it out of the garage...

Do I need a fuel rail guard?

I took mine off to change the oil filter and never bothered putting it back on. That was about six months ago and I've not spontaneously combusted into a fireball yet. I can't honestly see anything big enough to do damage hitting it in normal driving.

    tb's , supercharging or turbo?

boosted power is always cheapest in terms of bang for buck. if i ever wanted to boost my clio i'd be tempted to look into either an Eaton roots blower or a Rotrex for simplicity. saw an Alfa hatchback with a Rotrex at Snetterton a while back and it was awesome.

    Denso K20TT plugs - ph1 172

Has anyone used Denso K20TT plugs in a ph1? what gap? Opie list these as compatible and at £3 versus NGK's £12 PFR6 I don't really mind having to change them in another 30-40k! I've run non-coated plugs in my RX7 for a while and that's about as plug hostile an engine as you can get, interested...

    Silver ph1 172 Maidstone

Not really, it's my daily driver so don't want to go too mad with it. Plus it's in pretty good nick and has still only got 70k on the clock, so few stock ones about now i kind of want to fix the tatty bits and bring it back to a factory standard.

That was me! Totally stock atm, yours has definitely made me think about going lower. Wanted to chase a bit more but my petrol gauge was guilt tripping me...

Dead engine mounts? 1st gear graunch

Nice one guys, there's definitely a lot of wiggle there. Can you get it off just by jacking up the engine?

Dead engine mounts? 1st gear graunch

It doesn't lose any power, but it sounds terrible. How many mounts to the chassis are there? I've only worked on RWD cars before.

Dead engine mounts? 1st gear graunch

Giving it some stick in 1st (even at half throttle) brings a nasty vibratey graunching sound from the engine bay. Doesn't sound like det or ignition breakup, and only happens in first under reasonable load past 4k revs. A bit of digging and reading suggests shagged engine mounts, does this...

Best place to get a half/show cage?

As the other poster said, spend some more money and get an actual cage. Among other reasons (like a pretend cage being very naff) if you crash a show cage becomes a great way to get a head injury.

Pub discussion, engines last longer if driven hard

One of the big killers of the RX8 Renesis was owners babying them and never taking them to their peak power band. Carbon would build up in the engine, create hot spots or damage the apex seals and kill it. There was a similar issue with new Minis (another female popular car, see a pattern?)...

    Clio 197 Engine Heat

If you're worried about the stat take it out and chuck it in a pan of boiling water, then watch if it opens.

Who's iPhone 6 has bent then!?

Wasn't unheard of for older iPhones to emerge from your pocket with mysteriously cracked screens. I did it to a Sony Xperia at work after squatting down to look at something. Personally I'd prefer my money went towards a tougher chassis and screen on these phones instead of a bazillion MP...

    Ph1 TPS part number

As title, can anyone give me the part number or point me in the direction of a blueprint part.

Wanting to create something. A light for the variable cam activation.

Defi, Stack and Autometer (to name a few!) all have temperature gauges and tachometers with warning lights. I guess if you were really really clever you could work out how to put a CAS on the dephaser then use some kind of logic box (Arduino?) to switch a light when a target value is hit? A...

Good info, cheers mate. My TPS seems a bit dodgy and has a suspicious cable tie on it so definitely getting it replaced!

    Go Pro advice, total newb

IIRC the Black can film at the highest speed, meaning super slow mo footage.

    Random but intrigued question...

Google gear ratios. Fitting bigger wheels and tyres will also make you sit at an ever so slightly lower RPM at a given speed!

U2 downloads new album to every iPhone

It's nice to see the Apple fanboys will defend literally anything the company does. I don't remember volunteering for the Apple/U2 multi million pound marketing exercise, because that's what this is. It's not "Apple gives away free album!" It's "Apple treats its consumer base like mugs for a...

U2 downloads new album to every iPhone

Ignoring the stupid people who think they've been hacked... It irritates me because it's just another example of Apple arrogance. I'd rather not have Apple playing around with my iCloud account; it's not a security thing but a privacy one.

    The Apple Watch Thread

£300 so I don't have to take my phone out of my pocket? No thanks. I wish Apple would go back to making decent computers instead of lifestyle statements for monied hipsters.

    F*ck. How should I proceed?

Get an old Allen key that's 1mm too big and hammer it into your Allen bolts. When I say hammer, I mean big lump hammer and smash the Allen key in so it's press fitted. This is a tried and tested method of nicking wheels with locking nuts. Take the Allen bolts out then your spacer should come...

Fastcar Clio 172 Air Filter Test

Mazda did just this on the 787b Le Mans car. The intake trumpets were sleeved in two pieces and actuated by solenoid so they could shorten as the revs went up. Freaking amazing. Also anyone that finds this stuff interesting should read up on Helmholtz resonance and the Lenoir cycle. Both really...

    Can't jack car high enough..

Jack up the front, put it on stands, do all work at the front, drop it down, move to the back. I've done full block back exhausts like this before. My other car sits really really low; I have to jack it up, put it on stands then compress the springs, move the wheels up and slide ramps or wood...
