ah right didnt even know you could run it properly on standard ecu.. still not bad power i take it you of gained more having a omex/gen90 ecu and mapped to that?

Its not really about the extra power more the efficiency of the fuel/map etc, it could have run the same power with a aftermarket Ecu but would have been loads better to drive on the road.

Its down to the safety of the engine more than anything, completely accurate fuelling and timing is essential for a problem free boosted engine.

Just caught up on this thread. It's come such a long way.
Can't wait to see the results. I bet your well proud. You should be ;)

A company called autotronix they specialise on mx5's but are literally on my road so going to give them a go. Why do you know of somewhere round SY

Yeah GR performance. James custom builds some amazing manifolds and his colleague is good at mapping. James is from Dinnington, but they're based in Swinton I think.

Dinningtons about 5 min drive from me do you have his number? If there rated ill give them a call tommorow

The biggest problem with the standard ecu is the lack of people who can properly map it. I don't believe for exams that ktec have even got a full damos file for it so aren't able to alter it as fully as you need to in order to make it work properly. If you had complete control over it you could make it reliable but it would still be cumbersome and hence cost a fortune in mapping time. Far better to use an aftermarket ecu which is designed to be remapped than try and hack about the standard one.

Well this is interesting

the company I was going to use for wiring loom and mapping have just rang and left me a voicemail saying they no longer would like to do the job as I couldn't get an mtech ecu and I'm using an omex600 instead :/ apparently it's cos he's not used one before!

Tbh I'm glad as if he can't map that ecu or never done it before I imagine the outcome would of been s**t. I'm taking it down to GR performance Saturday for them to have a look at the work then hopefully leave it with them :)

Shame you are so far away from Mike from MWM mate :( He loves working with Omex.

Fair play to the company you were talking to though for not just taking the job on and trying to learn on the job like a lot of people would at your expense!

How far is it?

Also need abit of help. The radiator has been made fabricated so it fits in better basically same size just slimmer and think fans not as bulky well was a lot smaller than my original now the plug that connects the fan I have no where to connect it to.. Could I change the connection on the wire to the fan? I don't even want to drive it to the mappers with the fan not connected

  Ph1 T
Yeah abit far then shame really..

So can cut end of the one on my new one and cut end of my old one and swap them over.

Make sure you wire the fan in with the correct polarity otherwise when you want the fan to pull air through the rad it might push it!

So basically I could put my old one upto the 3 connections I have clip them up so I know which one goes where can't go wrong then surely

Im not sure if it works like that TBH due to the way the blades are shaped, but it certainly wouldnt be a good idea to wire it backwards anyway.

The three different fans I tried last year all offered this feature so you could put it either in front or behind the rad and it said to take care with polarity so you don't send the air the wrong way lol

Just gave cooksport a ring about the loom and mapping there calling me back with a price :)..

Anyone who's had a loom built what sort of price have you paid just to get a rough idea really

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
I wouldnt call that cheap, but likewise it IS a lot of hours to do, so you cant really expect someone with big overheads like Paul to do it for a few hundred quid.

Ahh so a fair but of wiring to do then, I was going to say to Dan he should fit the ECU himself and then it just needs mapping but that will be more tricky if it doesn't have the connectors on

  Ph1 T
Tbh I wasn't expecting it to be cheap just I though 1k was a tad expensive like you say there a big company ect..

I would say it's what I would expect to pay for that amount of wiring and mapping and for the ease of going 20 mins up the motorway to Leeds I would do that Dan. Any further issue's or changes you want to make aren't going to be a 2-3 hour drive.
