182 Crash - What to do next!?

  Renault Clio 182
Hi Guys,

Looking for some advice here;

My Dad crashed my car last night, stupid mistake, he never hit anyone else or hit anything else except a kerb.

One of the wheel is completely caved in the way, sitting at about 45 degrees. It's seized up and I had to get it towed to an garage. I spoke to the garage and on first glance it doesn't look too bad but further digging now shows that my Dad's hit the kerb that hard that he's damaged the chassis, axle, discs, new tyre(s), drivers seat airbag came out bursting all leather etc etc. On initial thoughts he advised that it may be uneconomical to repair, looking at anything from £3000+. It's not been put through the insurance as I'm fully comp but my dad's not an additional driver on mine so he then becomes Third party when driving mine so essentially we have to fork out for any costs incurred.

Myself and the garage rang a specialist who thinks it's salvageable and all the chassis etc can be jigged and all repairs done for under £2000 which is a lot better than first suspected.

Basically I'm wondering is this definitely the way to go (seems the best way to me)!? Or would I be better stripping the parts or selling the car etc!? The car actually has a cliosport.net sticker on it, anyway used to own it!? SY55 LPP.

Cheers guys.

how much you pay for it?
then see what salvagable parts you have, look at prices on here people are selling for and then work out what better option would be.

shame tho, hope all is ok and gets sorted :(

Unfortunately someone called the police thinking my Dad must of been drunk or something making a b-line towards the kerb !! Haha
I actually swapped it plus cash my way for my Fabia vRS, was originally advertised about £4500 I think. Gutted as its a really nice looking one also, both cup packs, K-Tech exhaust, Eibach springs etc. etc.

Ebaying it as a whole how much do you think I'd get back!?

It's probably still worth about £4500 as northing has changed since I've bought it (about 3 weeks ago), presuming I get it back to the condition I bought it in.

Cheers.

Just have weigh it up whether it's worth repairing it when you know exactly how much it'll cost.

Recently broke my Cup up for parts after an accident and although it seemed daunting at 1st it turned out to be a good decision financially. If you've got the room and time to do it's definitely worth considering.

Edit: Also another thing to consider is the car will never be the same if it's repaired, it's probably more of a psychological thing but crash repaired cars always feel different and not in a good way.

Why wasn't your Dad a named driver on your policy? Firstly it would probably make it cheaper and secondly, if he drives it, then he would be covered full comp.

No my Dad isn't a named driver, he's got his own policy were he can drive any car third party. Didn't make it any cheaper having him on it also and he rarely drives my car.

If you don't mind me asking what did you get roughly back in parts and what parts were sold!? Most of the panels are in fine order just the one alloy that's unrepairable/unusable. I would have 3 alloys, seats excluding driver as it's burst with the air bag, all trims associated with it, engine (61k), Pipercross air filter, K-Teck Ulta exhaust, Eibach lowering springs etc.

Not sure how too!?

Spoke to the mechanic there and got quoted a price for a new axle there and it's £1000 from Renault. Is there anywhere you guys can recommend for parts etc!? Fairly positive I can get it much cheaper than that.

Cheers

Also if you become a paid member on here then there are traders in the trader section that should be able to supply a 2nd hand one at a fraction of that cost.

If i was you mate id pay your membership (12£) then like adam. said you will be able to see the for sale and traders section and also be able to post a wanted thread with what you need init. You can get it fixed for a lot less than you have been quoted.

This sounds like the way forward. Will get it done tonight then find out exactly what I need and get posting.

Away to get a pic up just now mate. Doesn't really look like much but it's damaged all the chassis as I've said, sheared the brake dics in half etc.

eBay it as a whole. Buy something else.

Stripping it yourself is a massive pain in the arse.
Boom!

Why people buy cars back from the insurance to make £500 and a f**k load of hassle i'll never know, take the money and buy something else.

In this case, sell as a whole, someone will snap it up.

Oh and was it black ice, oil slick, diesel, deer, low flying plane?

Delete as you wish...

Was away to delete a few of them but my Dad said it was all of the above!?

Think in this instance though mate it makes more sense just to get the car repaired as unless I'm selling the car for at least £2500 then it's not worth it.

I'll drop you a P.M in a sec mate.

Perfect cheers mate.

Here's a few pic's (2) of it before the accident and then the 1 after the accident. Can't see much to be honest just the wheel sitting about 45 degrees.

Can't speak for anyone else but I made a fair bit more than that and got to keep quite a few parts for the Clio I own now. Yeah I agree it's a right mare and you're tripping up over car parts for a few months. Just depends if you can be bothered with it all I guess.

  Renault Clio 182
TBH, I'd whack a new axel alloy and brake discs on that and see how it goes.

That's the plan anyway mate. A few other things to do as well mind you, as it's bent the axel it's moved a few panels out of alignment etc. So quite a bit of work on the bodywork also and of course a new seat due to the airbag bursting all the leather etc.

Hopefully source a few parts cheap and get it fixed. Just don't want it going in to ridiculous costs to fix it as much as I love it.

  Renault Clio 182
Can anyone give me a guide as to what I could expect to get for the car in it's current state either on ebay or if anyone was interested in it!?

2005, 61K, Black gold, K-Tech Exhaust, both cup packs etc etc.

Thanks

im assuming you dont have any of the standard parts? If you do, put the springs and exhaust back to standard. Sell the atermarket parts and chuck the car on ebay. Someone out there will look at the pics and think, Yeah i can fix that no problem and take it straight off your hands im sure.

Hi Andy,

No unfortunately not. Just the way it is at the moment, but what do you reckon it would sell for!?

Off the top of my head I reckon I could get the following stripping it, some are complete guess to be honest;

2 Wheels - £250
Engine - £550
Passenger seat - £75
Rear seats - £50
Bumper - £60
Splitter - £40
Eibach Springs - £40
K-Tech Ultra Exhaust - £120
Various other parts - £400

Total approx - £1,585 (very rough)

But that's really nowhere near enough to think about stripping it over repairing it.

When you say the chassis, could it just be the engine subframe? I did the same smacking a curb and it cost the insurance £1500 to fix inc a new wheel, prob could do it for half that with SH parts

Too be honest mate I couldn't tell you. Think it is what your describing, it's a bent axle including the axle stubs possibly!? A long with new discs etc.
It was done by smacking a kerb so sounds like it could be!?

Hi mate, sorry to hear about your car. However on the vulture theme, I'll have the filter if you sell it!!

Front or back? From the sounds of it you mean the rear beam and stub axles.

That's a big impact on the rear wheel.

Yeah not so good, it's the old ones you've got to watch out for. He basically panicked at the prospect of going into the back of a bus whilst not having a clue how to work cruise control, so threw the car round a corner last minute and think the back end (wheel) went out and smashed into and up onto the kerb. Tyres are actually fine, look worse in that pic for some reason.

Picture doesn't do it justice, it looks worse in real life I would say. The impact has pushed the boot up inside also and it's pushed a lot of the panels out of line such as the boot. I can fit a whole hand on at one side of the boot.

Yeah that's the one mate (I think) and it's at the back.

Sell it for parts mate, gonna take a lot of jigging and bending etc..

If it was just bolt on parts I'd say sort it but it's not!

I was originally saying fix it but after seeing that pic I'm gunna go with this unfortunately mate.

Unless you get your dad to pay for all repairs, he binned it means he fixes it imo.

This is really what I'm worried about.

I don't want to repair it, to it always feeling not quite right. I've spoke with the guy who will be jigging it and he's extremely positive that one he's jigged it it'll just be like it is now. My Dad is happy to do what ever, he's going to pay for anything either way. But obviously I want to try and help him out a little, also I do love the car and would be a shame to see it stripped.
