Recall!!!!

  172 cup
Just had a phonecall from my mum saying Ive received a letter at her house recorded delivery about my car.

Got her to open it and Renault are recalling my car asking for me to take it to a garage to get the bonnet mechanism looked at.

Apparently they tried to contact me last year (I dont think they did) and that there has been a problem with Mk2's and the Bonnet opening whilst the vehicle is moving.

Has anyone else had one of these letters?

Im glad its not already happened to me I would poop myself, more inconvenience than anything as there isnt a garage in York for me to take it to - ball ache.

Its very common knowledge! You should really know about it already, especially being on here! ;)

when i worked at renault it was all mk2's that where included int he recall, and Renault have been told to replace them at any sign of rust.
The only thing that bugged me is they are spending the money to do it, and are replacing with like for like catches, and it dont take a genius to work out the problem will retun, The main thing is it seems to be the bolts that hold the catch on are rusting through, so keep an eye on them, and replace the catch yourself if your worried, they're not expensive.

had my letter come throught about 6 months ago, booked it in and had it done, the new locking meconism is really tacky has a plastic handle which rattles like mad i ended up putting some foam padding round it to stop it from ratteling.

When you go, tell them it lifted once when you were driving but noticed it and stopped to shut it. That way, you get a nice shiny new one.

They did a safety check on my car too and I got an advisory "no interior fitted, no dash board top fitted, Battery secured to rear of vehicle" PMSL, Oh really?

its the spring mechanism thats the problem mate. we had them in the bodyshop a while back.the ins company made the policy holder pay for bonnet latch and mechanism poor maintained.

You just go into any dealer and say you've come about the bonnet catch recall. They know about it as it's been on Watchdog 30000 times, you wont need the letter!

don't need th letter, just call your local renault garage and get it booked in for a replacement. Loads on here have done it without the letter...

Mum said nearest dealer they have put on letter is Boroughbridge or Harogate:S

Just go to your closest doesnt have to be the dealer they suggest in the letter as long as its a Renault main dealer you'll be fine.

Shouldnt need the letter just ring them up and book the car in they'll no doubt have it listed as they cross off warranty recalls on their system as they get done.

Had mine checked a few months back..they sprayed it with WD40, checked it open and closed properly and stuck a sticker in the engine bay to say it had been checked. Nothing to worry about.

Dunno mines not been in yet its booked in for 30th this month - someone mentioned they just oil the catches on the bonnet or even replace them sometimes

Nah, if there is the slightest bit of corrosion present it gets replaced, FOC as well.
Mine got done a couple of weeks ago when I had my battery changed.

got mine through today as well, silly lot, loving the fact that I knew about it and asked them when mine would be due about a year ago if not more!!

My bonnet catch sticks on odd occasions and sometimes needs prised to its seated position with a flat screwdriver to allow the bonnet to click closed.

Should i call up my local dealer and try for a new catch ?

I never received a recall latter :(

I haven't got a recall letter for my car and my local dealer still looked at it. I just called them up and booked it in. They all know about the problem with the catches.

They're going to replace it too at some point...

Had my catch replaced just over 2 weeks ago, i wanted a new un for me CF bonnet so i told um it had popped open a few times and they had to put a new 1 on.

lets set the record straight here

this applies to ALL Clio II's

if you have had it checked already a year or so ago, the recall has been revised, if there is ANY corrosion on the top catch (the one on the bonnet) it will be replaced

you should not need a letter

from the 200+ ive dealt with, ive not noticed ANY modification to the catches, look after the new one and it will be fine, things like this are what get lubed on a proper service, if you 'service' your car yourself then id imagine its been missed out and therefore allowed to sieze up and corrode

and lastly if you didnt know about this you must have been in a panic room, on mars, wearing a blind fold and ear muffs

  Clio Dynamique
Took mine in for a 'free' bonnet catch and ended up leaving with a bill for 450 quid!!

They did a 25 point check or something and found every expensive thing they could that needed replacing :S. Didnt really have much choice other than to have it done.

So watch out when you take yours in.
