I seem to have a Clio 162 :(

This thread will be of no surprise to anyone at the rolling road day today!

The rollers seem to have been pretty accurate as everyone bar a couple of us were hitting exactly what they were expecting however I only made 162bhp @ 6575rpm and 141.1 lb ft @ 5655 rpm.

The only things different to my car from the factory spec is a newish itg panel filter and a pattern part exhaust. Suspected the zorst but the rr guy didnt think it would make that much of a difference on a full throttle run.

Recently serviced and been run on v-power for the last few months.

Any ideas? Thanks

John

Wasnt a good run today for you mate. Eecklesvalver ran 130+ BHP, could be a stuck valve on his as the man at Falkland said.

The exhaust would be effecting performance, just i dont know how much.

  Rb 182
Dont think they've ever been changed, good for 72k apparently

Hmm might be worth while changing them as well, get the card out and go to the k-tec website and get the stelth.

Also i think its a good idea to get it into my work and get it on the ramp to check the CAT.

  Mondeo TDCI 130
Is that bad? i didnt think they made the power as a rule! I changed my plugs at 50K and they were shagged bud!

Yeah I reckon its a stuck valve as well but he was saying he'd be surprised as it didnt sound like it. I think from the outside it didnt sound right at all.

Dont want to get into more debt, not long cleared the card. But need to do something about the exhaust thats for sure. £300+VAT is a lot of cash!

Surely its only meant to be 168HP standard (172 is PS), so your 6hp down, change the plugs give it a service, could have been poor fuel on the day to be honest. I doubt its the exhaust.

Powerflow will knock you up a stealth one for £200, although depending on the franchises near you not sure what the quality will be like.

See if I had been the only runner then Id accept it, its the fact that otehr 172s and 182s were making the power highlights mine didnt. 197s were even making theres!!

Just looking through the service and found a bill with

Part number RN1019 Clio Cat £218.58

so I wonder if its a crappy cat as well :S

doesn't seem that bad, what did the other 172/182's make?
172! All 172s were 170+ apart from me and eck and 182s were 179+ so thats why Im a bit concerned!
normal..

rs are always underpowered on firgures. usual rule is what they say - 10

I wouldnt say anyone was underpowered today. All of them were running close to the book figure. Just seemed to be ecks and johns that didnt run correctly.

Something must be wrong surely with ecks, 130+ bhp, down 30+ bhp.
John, time to change sparks and ht leads.

Again though I'd expect that if I was losing 10bhp from sparks Id have a misfire and shocking fuel economy.I will change them but I'll be surprised if it makes 10bhp back

  Ph1
Any exhaust problems will make a difference in results but i doubt the RR is 110% spot on accurate even if the rest of the cars were roughly about book figure add that to the usual 168 - 169hp ph1's usually run at and id say thats about right.

  Lots of Alfas
I wouldnt worry about it too much john, its not going to be too much of a noticable difference. If your changing the sparks get NGK pfr6e-10. I changed mine dead on 72k and the old ones were still fine, they hadnt even gone rusty

It would be interesting if you changed them, then rr'd again and see what the differance was.

Will do bud cheers.

Congrats on 3k as well ;)

Just start saving for a new exhaust and decat, i mean how often do you get a chance to use all 162 horses anyway.

  The Beast MK4
Mk2 Airbox, ITG Panel, K-Tec Stealth and Farm Dirt will get you the figures you want sir.

I'll bring the dirt to the next RR. ;)

I'm not being funny but if the car doest misfire then whats the point changing the plugs. If the fuels being ignited then thats pretty much it really.

Check air filter induction hoses etc etc.. for loose connections anything that could be blocking it. Dirty filter etc..

Check exhaust manily as you said the CAT get a decat

Do you burn any oil? Do a compo test or similar.

Trye pressures?

theres so many variable but I very much doubt changing the plugs will do sweet fa if the engine runs smoothly over the entire rev range

  Hyundai i40
i have a 199.9 bhp clio with just an exhaust and air filter.......yeah rite....but i have the proof

It would seem to be the key! You got 172.5bhp did you not?

Well they wont cost a fortune and I tend to overservice cars slightly anyway.

Airfilter is a itg panle thats been in for 4k.

No, dont burn a drop.

Tyres were 32psi

Okay then next step is to have a look at the cat then, it wont be the plugs but if you wanna change them then thats fair enough. Has the cambelt been done recently?

  tiTTy & SV650
cat and zorst will easily rob 5 brake get them to fcuk, look what a difference Big Iains car made with afrtermarket manifold and zorst, madness!!!

Get a matched inlet too.

  tiTTy & SV650
I'd be inclined to get a standard zorst on first with standard cat if poss to see if that makes up for it.

Might just be a badly cast inlet that's causing the issues.

That part number for the car isnt a renault number mate.
If you have a poor exhaust that will do it. i say change your plugs as well
mine werent that good after 36k

  Ph1
Only problem with a decat is on a ph1 its a right old pain to change over once a year. Good mod, well worth it but a pain.

IMO the figure is roughly about right. You could spend big bucks taking it further by buying new OE parts all to seek out this lost 4 or so hp which in the real world aint gonna make a lot of difference anyway.

you want more bhp, follow the usual kinda tuning routes, inlets, remap, cams, etc etc

And did the dozen plus other 2 litre clios that ran the same day also over read or were you 10bhp down on all of them?

Yeah I know, must be a pattern part as well, thats a big suspect for me now.

Ive got access to ramps so that helps a bit! Think I may just do it anyway................or burn it ;)
