Scott's Super Clean PH1 172 Project Thread

  A special one.
I drove to Freds workshop, he didn't give me a pulley, all he says is he will give me a tracking number.

Has never happened!!

Difference is, Fred is a one man band who is obviously incredibly busy. Possibly too busy for his own good but there is no doubt about it, he is one of the best Renault tuners out there.

Putting things into some perspective, he has offered a 'free' pulley to help you out Scott but if it comes down to letting a paying customer down or a favour for someone then he is quite right to choose the paying one. His only fault is saying he would send it in the first place but I don't think that permits him being bad mouthed on here and certainly not being compared to a mail order shop in the name of ktec.

I would stop grumbling and try and source another pulley.

My bottom end is skimmed and decked and the head has also been skimmed. I managed to use all the standard pulleys and the tensioning marks lined up fine.

Hope you get sorted soon and understand your frustration but draw a line and move on would be my advice.

wow! Just wow!!!!

Are you being serious with this post??

Sorry to her this Scott and hope it gets sorted ASAP!

3 weeks is a long time to wait for a part that you was told would be done. Then to drive up there to be told its already been sent off, clarifying its available to you, only for it still not to turn up is wrong. As mentioned, if he said he couldn't do it at the start for whatever reason then fair enough but he's been stringing you along and now lying. It's not right.

Why wouldn't I be?? Cause it is different to your point of view?

As above, did he know we're driving up or did you do that off your own back? An unarranged 300 mile drive to pick something up from someone is a gamble to say the least.

Look, I've bought a few things from Fred with no issues and great service and he has also helped me a number of times when I've had issues. He didn't have to but did so I thank him for that. My car has never been to his garage so I couldn't call myself a paying customer. I always think there is more to situations than one persons point of view. Usually IMO, there the other person and the truth is some where in between.

If Subaru pulleys are a possiblilty then I have loads in the garage and will check if any are suitable.

Regardless if it was announce or not, he was told on Monday that it had been sent out. That means it would of been sent out Monday before Scott arrived, or Thursday/Friday/Saturday of the previous week. Still no sign of said part or tracking number.

No because you have suggested that because it was a freeby it's ok to keep someone hanging on for 3 weeks for a part.

I think Scott made it crystal clear that he wasn't expecting anything for free. Knowing Scott I think he would of probably of actually paid over the odds for it just so he can get his car on the road.

If Fred is too busy then he should of just said so at the beginning.

I've been to Fred's to have belts done and his service was excellent. But sadly it seems he's let Scott down badly with this one.

Amazing build the attention to detail is awesome, just spent about an hour looking threw all 46 pages. can't wait to see it finished.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read throught it all mate and thank you for the nice comments. :)

Shame your being messed about by one of the supposed top specialists on here with a good rep, hope u get it sorted mate.

So do i Jamie, thank you.

This must be why Renault say not to skim heads.

I have to "lol" yes i guess so. :(

I've had the block and head skimmed on my forged engine build... hope I don't face similar issues now!

If you do mate, then i hope by that time ill have sorted out the correct pulley. Its not knowing what i need thats taking the time and pissing me off lol.

How far are the marks from lining up?

They start to come together but then they move away from each other, i wont risk it as the head owes me far to much money to start smashing supertech valves up.

Best of luck Scott. I ordered a yozza from fred when I had my 200. Needless to say a couple of months later I bought a Ktec system instead as it never happened. Took Ktec 2 days to deliver for a comparison!

Cheers Ry, 4 years ago i ordered a gearbox mount from Fred and it arrived the next day or so. When i did my belts Fred talked me through the job over the phone, i even called him on a sunday for some advice with no problems at all.

God knows whats going on with him now although his told me that he wants to sell BTM and go to OZ.

Did he know that you was driving up there to get it?

No he didn't but i was told that he had 5 on the shelf, when i got there i offered to pay for it and take it away.

If i had got home and the other one had arrived then i told Fred i would post it back to him at my cost.

Looking as good as ever Scott :)

Cheers Matt. :)

Don't know if this is any use but found an idler I had off a Subaru. It is 60mm OD and 35mm wide with a 10mm ID.

Came off an engine I had with 5k on it that I was stripping. Let me know if you want me to post it tomorrow.

Or doesn't want a used idler on his fresh rebuilt engine....

I wouldn't.

No i wouldn't tbh as a new scooby one is about £30, but its not a scooby one i needed.

Nah it's all sorted. That's all. He's happy messing about with shiney parts AGAIN

I would be even happier if i was making the spacer and fitting the pulley, just did a couple of little jobs.

I must thank you again for your help, means alot dude. :approve:

I'm fairly certain Andy cutler doesn't make the parts himself. Just sub contracts the work out.

The Andy cutler from ktec who used to do the mapping???

If so i wouldn't let him wash my wheels let alone work on my car.

Awesome work, and will be brilliant when you can get it back on the road, shame about being messed about!

One thing i cannot stand is that!

Cheers matey, me too. Its my pet hate!!

So what pulley did you use for other people's reference in the future.

Its top secret, myself and HMS spent the best part of the day sorcing the bloody thing. ;)

Good to see my old cams going I good use man , hope u get ur pully sorted ASAP 

Hey cheers dude, ive had them a while sitting in the garage, thought id pull me finger out and make use of them.

Hopefully not to long now untill its running.

No worries mate, even if you wanted to try this one before buying one at £30 and realising it was too big. The offer is there and could be posted tomorrow. Glad you're sorted now though.

Right, i feel its only fair that i set the record straight.

I was in talks with Fred again on Friday but this time he called me back and was texting me so things where looking positive, the last thing he text me is that he would send me the tracking number later on that day once he had gotten back to the office (fair enough i thought)

So Friday came and went. Anyhow yesterday i was outside changing over my rear hub spacers when the post van arrived and the driver handed my a jiffy bag which contained my pulley.

At last, im very happy now and once im back at work i can get the new spacer turned up on the lathe.

Fred also has given it to me for free, ive tryed to pay him but he won't accept any payment.

So moving forward from this "hick up" shall we call it.

On Friday i fitted my ARP rod bolts and powder coated spare sum that i bought from Dan @ SJM.

20140502_121454_zps2891f21a.jpg

I was going to buy new sump bolts from Renault but over £2 each it would have cost me clost to £50, no ta so i had them all plated for £20.

20140502_134520_zps4d8250a1.jpg

New sump plug fitted.

20140502_134558_zps32cc3fb8.jpg

So next up was removing the 10mm -1 rear hub spacers that id bought from M.A.D. last year. They gave me about -3 deg camber Y0 which made the car look broken, not a look i want.

I bought a set of very nice alloys ones from Ph1 Tom, so much better. I also wanted to replace the rubber stainless steel bolts that dan supplied with his kit.

I bought some high tensile 12.9 bolts from ebay and some stainless steel nylock nuts, so much better.

20140503_121121_zps325e1772.jpg

All fitted, cheers Tom. :D

Once its back on the road then it will be going off to Mark Fish for a ful geo set up.

Used to? Never heard that he'd moved on.

I could be wrong mate, but i heard that when ktec moved they didn't want him working for them anymore. Someone may be able to clear that up though, as i said i could be wrong.

No worries mate, even if you wanted to try this one before buying one at £30 and realising it was too big. The offer is there and could be posted tomorrow. Glad you're sorted now though.

Yes that what i would have done with it tbh, but thanks again in trying to help me out. :approve:

Disgustingly clean. Keep it up, this going to be on the road for the south end meet?

When is that?

2015? Ill be there flol

As ive not got anything to do now untill ive made the spacer up i thought i would chuck in the Becker head unit in bought to see how it looks.

Im not to sure if i like it tbh, i don't know if it looks a bit out of place.

Anyway i have some other audio bits that i want to buy so ill see how that goes.
