Rejecting a duff car - where do i stand?

Yes thats me mate.

Oh ah! Small world

How is it?

I (Dan) used to have a GTi6 and attend the Weston PF Pizza Hut meets on a Sunday evening with Neal Creed in his Tango RST and Skyline.

Most memorable moment was the Blackpool Birthday trip years ago in your LPG mondeo where the LPG nozzle failed and ammended your hand to that of Jeremy Beadle's. I seem to remember you not stopping to let me go for a piss as well actually!

LOL, that stuff is fecking cold!

Fundamental rule of being off on a blokes trip to blackpool etc is that toilet stops are dictated by the strongest bladder not the weakest, lol

Small world mate, have to catch up soon.

You on facebook? if so add me im on creedys list anyway.

Was a good trip. I'm not on the book of faces, no.

I live in Taunton now. You still working in London during the week? Beer is overdue. It's my birthday Friday. How convenient.

The main issues here, are that the car you have is secondhand. If it was brand new, then RUK would bend over backwards, they are rEdiculously s**t hot on new car customer services.

The issue with it being secondhand is that it then becomes the problem child of the dealership where you bought it from.

Think of it like this...

When you buy a new car, you are buying a renault product. When you buy a secondhand car, you are buying it from the dealer ship that has it for sale. Thats the way renault customer services will see it.

(I appreciate the car was practically new, but you are not the first owner on the logbook so any argument is void. Its not a new car)

Arnold clark couldnt get me a curtisy car for 2 weeks and want the car for 2 days to put right, so phoned RUK who are paying for another hire car for me on monday. getting somewhere!

Arnold clarke are a law onto themselves, they have such a massive percentage of the scottish car dealerships its almost a monopoly.

I got a full £30k refund from an independent dealer on a car that was 2 years old and out of waranty, it is possible even after they have attempted to put the problem right.

i'd work out exactly what you think the problem is, have it independently inspected with a written report and pictures of any damage, if it looks bad then go to Ren UK with the report, if its not so severe then just go to the dealer with the report, get them to fix it and refund you the cost for the independent report.

tracking was out on the car, took it to a suspension geometry specialist today who confirmed the full geometry was out of alignment due to the subframe not being fitted back on properly (passengers front wheel is 7mm closer to the rear of the car than the drivers front) so ive got a full report from them, called consumer direct who told me where i stand etc and have instructed me that since the car still technically belongs to the finance company, call them and get them to take over.

so ive done that and the guy on the phone said to me "so what do you want a like for like replacement car?" i said yes that or refund and he said ok ill pass it onto our team and they will get back to you.

so now just need to wait on finance company taking it from here and see what happens.

Looks like you're getting progress to where you want it to be.

And 7mm is a lot.

Sounds like having it on finance has really played into your hands :)
The finance company will have far more influence on the garage than you could I suspect!

Good news. 7mm is a lot for a car that was supposed not to have differences like that

If you remember, Renault 5 had some 5cm difference straight out from the factory.

yeah its just a waiting game see what happens, for anyone in a simmilar situation, consumer direct are awesome and really know their stuff. he took all the details, gave me a ref number and told me to call back if i have any issues.

i didnt even think about the finance company previously but like chip said they will have massive clout over the dealership especially since its Renault finance.

also, consumer direct says they can either offer a replacement which must be 100% like for like (unless the customer agrees to otherwise) or a refund. From looking on the website it seems Albi blue is no longer available? so if it does go to that then its likely going to have to be refund or me select another colour.

That's a double bonus then. New car and a good colour ;)

But in all seriousness, isn't the subframe/wheels being out by that much massively dangerous? It's not like it's been crashed (or has it?) and the car is out of line.

If you agree to a different colour, you can have the car, otherwise, take the money and pour it into a Mercedes ;)

You could offer to pay towards up-spec'ing a replacement, and see if you can wangle the extras at a better price (like, get Carminat or something on the cheap)

Always a bonus to paying on credit card/having finance.

They've got a lot more £££ to throw at lawyers if needed than you could.

Get one of the expensive paint options :D.

  Listerine & Poledo
Liquid Yellow
Full RS body trimming pack
Every cockpit option (Carminat > y0! meters)

Give tehm a fiver and tell them they're lucky to get that

its early days so need to see whats happening first, consumer direct have told me that obviously a product has to be fit for purpose and durable, mine falls under the durability issue, and ive offered to have it put right, after putting my concerns to renault uk about the fact i didnt trust the garage, and this has confirmed my concerns. i now have a car ive made including deposit less than £2000 worth of payments too that feels 5yrs old and is wandering all over the road due to the subframe issue!

it was ment to be going into renault on monday to be rectified but ive canceled it and said i dont want it touched until ive heard back from finance company.

i suppose id take a white one if they made up for my inconvienience in options ;) or a cost price megane ;) ;)

Any chance you could take it to Ness Martin?

RUK arranged for my 200 to go there after 3 garages in the Glasgow/Ayr area said it was fine (blatantly wasn't). 2 minutes in Ness and the guy told me exactly what was wrong and what was needed to fix it!

your deffo wanting that "cost price megane" in both your threads i think youv said it like 4 times :p hope this is getting sorted to what you want as iv been following the crack since the day you got it :)

If he keeps pushing, they'll probably hand him the keys for his cost-price megane.

lol yeah more than likely!, na basically ive had that much hastle from them, if they want to keep me as a renault customer then i want to be coming out of this in a better situation than before the hastle!

if i get no luck with them then it will be a case of cutting my losses, trading in the f**ked 200 for something non renault and not coming anywhere near them again. Which is a shame after 7 renaults (all clios) and the family business which uses all renault twingos and replaces them every 2 years

Don't get Liquid Yellow, even if they offer it (which they won't lol)

It baffles me why it's the holy grail of colours. It's really glittery gold FFS.

Yellow is the single safest colour in which to have a car.
That is a stone cold, scientific fact

I dont get red cars at all, they only end up turning pink :clown:

had to drive it tonight in the dark for the first time since picking it up and this also revealed the fact that the headlight adjustment is screwed on it since having the front end off it, lights are pointing far to low and the in car adjuster is as high as it can go.

gets better and better!

aye danny a white 265 with the black wheels with red rim look awesome!

That really doesn't inspire confidence in them. My handwriting is awful at the best of times but THAT! Lol.

LOL Did they give you one of those "health check" sheets with it? They gave me one when mine had the gearbox replaced, telling me all tyres had 5-6mm, all bulbs were fine, fluids max etc. Missing the fact the two front tyres were just above the wear indicators, it had no sidelights and the cornering lights didn't work. Brilliant.

i imagine it was the fitter who wrote that, if it was i sympathise as he probably hasd to write counltess ammounts of bull all day when at work so handwriting is the last of your worries.

if that was the service manager, then lol.

as for the car martin i hope you get it all sorted :)

na they didnt give one this time, when they serviced my dci they gave me a belter, cant remember it all but basically they ticked to say they lubed the side sliding door, ticked the sidelights were working when none were fitted, ticked to say the propshaft was secure, they checked the automatic gearbox fluid, reset the service indicator (i had to do this myself) and same tyre problem with mine too!

lol the card i got when vw replaced my pistons was just as informative its obviously part of the trade secrets act ;)
