is this normal on a 172???

  Clio 172, Clio 200
lol I wish I would have joined Cliosport before I went and brought this. Such a shame because I love 172's, just going to have to get a better one that according to people on here isn't overpriced! How much should I pay for one then?

People on here would tell you it was overpriced if it was free.

Get your one sorted out first, and have a look in the For Sale section to get an idea of prices. There are a couple of nice Monacos on there.

Oh and pay the tenner for membership, best tenner you'll ever spend.

I don't think £4k was overpriced from a dealer for a 172. Firstly if it was bought private you wouldn't have had any come back on the sale. Secondly Monaco is the best colour and should go for a premium IMO :D

lol i didn't even know there was a membership? What's the 10 pounds membership for?

Didn't you notice there are some sections you can't read? Or that some people have avatars and 'Cliosport Club Member' under their names?

I'm beginning to see how this car-buying fiasco happened ;)

Just teasing - it is worth becoming a full member though.

I will do, I get paid sometime this week, i'll pay then :)

Yeah I don't think i'm the most observant person ever. So is the one I brought the so called Monaco?

  Clio 172, Clio 200
Well, the colour is Monaco Blue, yes.

Just seems a lot of people like the Monaco, I was wondering if the actual car was different or if it was just the colour.

I have been looking on the marketplace, there are some really good cars at a good price, just the slight problem of not being able to finance the car and no warranty etc.

It might be worth having a look on here..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/x-ray/x_guides/cars/car1-2.shtml

Some useful information on rejecting cars. It also mentions that the finance company are equally responsable. Perhaps if you aren't confident about writing a letter, find a friend or someone on here who is willing to write a "wordy" letter. There are probably templates on the net somewhere, similar to the bank charges ones!

  Clio 172, Clio 200
thanks Dan but i've already done that :)

Word_easy, that is a very very useful link. Thank you very much for that, it will come in serious handy! I will compose the letter myself but before I send it I will post a copy on here for you guys to let's say "approve".

I'm sure its not the route you might take. But i would luv to see what the dealer say's when you mention the clocks. Could go one of two ways i suppose, either he bought it at an auction/part x'd and isn't glue'd up enough on 172's to know the clocks were changed. Or he does know, and once you mention it's dodgy he'll be very quick to give you your money back, because he would be a retart to think he would win in court! Good luck with it buddy! Soon as i got to work tonight this was the first thread i wanted to check up on!

  Clio 172, Clio 200
lol I can't believe how helpful everyone has been on here! I think tomorrow will be a very interesting day on this case as I probably will be talking with the garage... I will keep posted.

Not the buyer's problem, it's the dealer's. He has to take it back.
Well yes of course he has to take it back , i said that in reply to peoples post's about him being a bully dealer.

  Clio 172, Clio 200
Yeah well as soon as he said about me having to go to court and get solicitors to give it back it obviously scared me away. Sounds very exspensive.

I know you've never met me, but just trust me....

If you speak to consumer direct they will back you all the way. You will go to court AND YOU WILL WIN!!! I'm a car dealer myself and can promise you now that as soon as it goes to court you're home and dry.

^^^Listen to that man^^^

Also, in addition to that, if you mention Court...and show serious intent on going (worst case scenario), then they will (or should) think twice about fobbing you off.

Maybe make a phone call to the local council's Trading Standards team and see if they can give them a polite 'nod'...I know one of Telford's TS team, and I wouldn't like to take him on...he knows everything inside out.

I wish you look, I hope you don't need it, and things make sense once you broach (sp) it with them...but they are out of order. You can use the fact that it is under warranty and has failed as a get out clause too!

  Clio 172, Clio 200
Indeed! I will threaten court if need be because i've so far been backed from trading standards through consumer direct and also spoke to citizens advice and the finance company, all of which have backed me up. It's just the damn garage that won't comply now and i'm just wondering what the best route to take is. As everyone has suggested a letter to the garage and finance company will be the best route. If that doesn't get me the refund, court it will be.

Still not resolved.

Called the garage today to speak to the boss only for them to tell me he was on "holiday". All they could tell me is that the car is at a Renault specialist being inspected.

I informed who ever this guy at the garage was that I would be rejecting the car and will have 14days from receiving the letter to terminate the contract and refund the £100 deposit.

Really thought today I would know if legal action was required or not.

He's back at work tomorrow and I will definately know then!

Sounds like they are dragging their heels now. I would get the letter prepared so you can send it first class recorded as soon as they tell you where by phone!

  Clio 172, Clio 200
Right, got a response from the finance company just saying they will investigate this matter and let me know.

The garage have had the car back, apparently the noise was a pulley which they have replaced and also replaced the cam belt (apparently to do with each other).

They contacted the previous owner (a garage) who sent them a certificate with change of clocks...

They have however said they will get a renault specialist to put original 172 clocks on the car.

Advice? Would you suggest take the car back now fixed or due to all the dodgy problems and messing about do I continue with my rejecting of the car.

By the way, spoke to Trading Standards again who said it is Supply of Goods (implied terms) 1973. This means if I want the refund, I CAN!

  Clio 172, Clio 200
Yep ok :) I have left it with them that I want a refund, and it is now in the hand of the finance company. I just hope they give me the refund :( I'm worried now cause I definately want a clio sport 172 or 182 but I afraid i'm going to make the exact same mistake.

Get your money back and get advice before buying your next 172/182, even if you ask on here first and post up the link to the ad. They're not all lemons, you just managed to pick a particularly bad one.

  RS 172
Once you get your money back, which im sure you will. (just make sure you keep putting pressure on them - call 2 or 3 times a day etc) Look in the for sale section onhere. there are plenty of 172's including mine.. ;-) lol

Since RS Clio's are 10-a-penny (Autotrader for 2-litre clios and you're away!), it's a buyers market....unless you want a Mk.1, or a V6....... or a trophy

  Clio 172, Clio 200
No update really, it's still with the finance company, waiting for a decision...Wish it would hurry up.

  Clio 172, Clio 200
OK, the finance company got back to me. They have stated it is within the garages rights to fix the car and I do not have any rights to get a refund. I then spoke to the garage who have fixed the problem, found the certificate to show the clocks were changed with mileage, they have fixed the engine and had renault put new original clio sport clocks on the car. I called Consumer Direct who have again said I AM entitled to a refund and they have passed this over to Trading Standards. I have got to wait 3 working days for Trading Standards to contact me. I am considering just having the car back now after everything has been sorted, what do you think?

Stand your ground if thats what you really want, its what THEY want you do to so don't give in to make it easier on them, at least the car sounds fairly legit now but I'd still get my money back or demand compensation of some sort for the incovenience.
