Re: Apple Event 27th Jan

may get some new OS for the iPhone. It's more anticipated that a new tablet will be released.

Re: Apple Event 27th Jan

it's more than likely the iSlate. Apples lawyers have been sending cease and desist letters out about the iSlate to Gawker over their iSlate bounty (they've offered $100,000 for anyone to let them have an hours play on one).

I'm not quite sure why Slates are seemingly the big thing this year. It was tried before with tablets a couple of years ago. I don't really see the need for them apart from in specialised scenarios, there's no real point to the general consumer to have one.

For example, in the case of the rumored iSlate, if it runs the iPhone OS, then it's just an iPhone with a bigger screen that's nowhere as portable (try sticking a slate in your pocket), so what's the point of it. If it runs OS/X then it probably won't have the same sort of power as an equivalent size MacBook and will cost more, so again, what's the point.

Having said that, they will be ideal for anyone who's job involves some sort of clipboard and writing.

Meh I dont really care tbh, If you wait for the new thing you will never buy anything. And they are probably making more expensive ones, and I only wanted a cheap one woopwoop

Re: Apple Event 27th Jan

Here are some iPhone OS 4.0 features, according to our guy:

■There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)

■“A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.

■Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.

■The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”

■The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications

If that screenshot is real (unlikely) then it's the same boring theme that I'm tired of looking at.

Really hope they do something to the 13" MBP. If they do i'll get one.

They at least need to give it a bigger hard drive like the MB has!

Re: Apple Event 27th Jan

Is OS 4.0 likely to be realised in 2/3 months if they're announcing it now?

I was just about to update my JB from 3.0 to 3.1.2 so wondering if I should bother or wait for JB 4.0?

Re: Apple Event 27th Jan

You should have moved to 3.1.2 ages ago.

Re: Apple Event 27th Jan

Well with the issues with 3.1, I wanted to make sure 3.1.2 was all good. And wasn't sure on how to back up everything completely, now I have, I'm ready to go.

Is 3.1.2 a big jump? Or just better to stick out for JB 4.0 now?

Re: Apple Event 27th Jan

Move to 3.1.2 but i'd suggest the custom IPSW method and keep your old Baseband.

Re: Apple Event 27th Jan

Here's an interesting link: http://blog.flurry.com/

Its a company that has analytic software which people put into their iPhone apps which basically calls home so that software authors can get metrics on how their app is being used.

They have seen upto 50 devices who's IP's seem to come from Apples IP ranges downloading iPhone apps to a non-iPhone device, whic also appears to be running OS 3.2.

So it looks like they are making sure that all the apps run on the tablets OK.
