Windows Vista Error

Hi, my mates laptop is only a few months old and is now not booting properly. It comes up with an error that results in it saying Windows System 32 Config System, system registry missing or incomplete?

He didn't get a CD with it and the laptop is asking that he puts the original CD in. Can these CD's with Vista be downloaded etc? HP have told him he needs to buy Vista!? Which can't be right as he's already bought it once when he got the laptop!

Any ideas?

Cool, thanks for that. I think going the route of getting a Vista CD would be best for him but eveyone I ask who has Vista, doesn't have the CD, including me.
