Where can I get a new driveshaft?

  Clio 172 gocart :)
Hi all,
Been on my first track day and now have a couple of repairs despite it being awesome. I have spoken to renault and they have an off side drive shaft for 170 plus vat. Ebay 50 quid. Does anyone on here sell them? I don't mind paying the 170 but don't want to be fleeced if the same can be bought for 50 quid.
Cheers

I've just bought a shafttec one off eBay for £50. I'll let you know how it turns out but hopefully I won't be able to comment on how long it lasts for a while...

I recently got a driveshaft from Renault on exchange basis £120. Was shocked to see "made in Germany" stamped on it . So I assume it will be well made .
Seen posts recently with people using non genuine shafts and are very cheap although not sure if fitting issues with them .

Thanks all. Gone for a Renault one in the end. Need more advice now, how do you get the bugger off?
Everything clear and should just slide off?

Remove shaft centre nut(easier said than done without power tools,I borrowed a friends £500 impact gun,as I thought the 8mm pin of my breaker bar was on the verge of failure),jack both sides up & place on axle stands(compulsery),remove RH wheel, remove bottom ball joint pinch bolt & seperate hub assembly from ball joint pin.Leave the 2 shock/hub carrier bolts in situ.
Pull the hub assemby outwards & tap the shaft back through the wheel bearing.Push the hub assembly to one side & secure it to keep it out the way(put a jack under it).
Remove the 2 13mm head 8mm bolts from the half shaft bearing carrier located on the back of the engine,& the securing plate will probably fall off,or be very easy to slide off.
The shaft should pull out by hand,or with a light tap at worst.
Reassembly with the new shaft is the reverse.
Not a bad idea to replace the ball joint(£11) at the same time, though tracking will probably need resetting.
A 2nd pair of hands is always usefull,if only to pass the spanners & make the tea.
Good luck.

Worth noting it's FAR easier if you have both front wheels off the ground. The first time I tried to get mine back together I only had the drivers side of the ground, with the the passenger side still on the floor you're fighting against the anti roll bar when trying to reattached the ball joint to the wishbone and line everything up.

  330i. E30 Touring.
No reason to undo the ball joint - that's a bloody pig.
You can get them out by undoing the two shock to hub bolts, and levering the wishbone down. Angle the hub. Bingo, out it comes.

Hi, sorry to pester again, but (after some extensive searching, rest assured XD) does anyone know if the CV joint is the same on the 172 and the 172 cup? If so, I will just replace the CV joint.

How long do you wish to keep the car for.

IME the cheap driveshafts tend to last the warranty period (which could be a year or 2 years). Where I have had driveshafts last me 200k on a model on a car (or 300k in the case of another car I know of (same model (Mondeo MkIII for anyone wondering)), we did have one where it was damaged to car error. None of the pattern driveshafts lasted. The first one did 30k before it starting breaking the inner CVs apart and vibrating on the motorway, and the second one was clicking when we sold the car. The untouched driveshaft was still OK with 280k from the factory.

The price difference there was huge. On ebay they were £30. The GSF items which failed were around 60. Ford wanted £330 (no, I am not kidding!).

On alot of cheap drive I have seen issues. The Porsche 944 driveshafts for instance off ebay do not engage all of the way for a 944 Turbo, handy if you are running around 300BHP or more.
