what power steering fluid do I use

I have a 2002 1.2 16v and my power steering fluid gone nearly empty!! the cars only done about 12000 miles and this is the first car ive ever had to top up with power steering stuff whys it gone down so quick and what is the correct fluid called??

PAS systems run on automatic gearbox oil.

Renault recommend the following.

Elf Renaultmatic D2 or Mobil ATF 220.

Most ATF oils will be ok and wil mix with what is already in your system.

Its a bog standard SAE 30 oil.

The reason your fluid might have dropped is when your break pads wear down your fluid will go down too, but I should not be a dramatic loss of fluid, if it keeps dropping after you fill it up it may be worth checking for leaks.

Remember the fluid is hydrophonic (is that the correct word ?) it absorbs water from the atmosphere, so dont leave the top off too long as your fluid will boil more easily

And power steering fluid is seperate to brake fluid.
