what does that sensor do?

  Clio 172 FF
I was out this morning having a level top up on the 172, had a check under the oil cap and then i noticed that there was a plug just behind the oil filler that was unplugged.

So i plugged it in, next the car was rattling like the valves were hitting and was down on power.

Upon unplugging it, the car is back to normal.
I have taken a picture and will popst up in a bit, but its a circluar plugg looking this literaly just behind the oil filler hole

can anyone shed some light?

should it be unplugged?

It honestly sounds like there is a bag of nails in the top end when plugged in

why would it be unplugged

  Lionel Richie
no idea why it would be unplugged, but it should be plugged in

has the car had a cambelt/any wrk done recently?

  Clio 172 FF
Had a belt done about 10k ago

If its not plugged in does that mean the vvt does not work?

could someone have left it unplugged as when a cambelt was done the vvt was damaged.

would this make the car slower not having it in

  Lionel Richie
not plugged in = no vvt

you say when its plugged in it sounds like there metal on metal contact?

who did your belt? Renault? a specialist? or some random?

It was a garage, it was done before i bought it.

Yeah its like a metaly noise, very fast rattle, un plug it and it sounds fine.

the car is still very powerful and revs fine, could it just be solanoid just broken?

  Lots of Alfas
Id take it to the garage and complain. Its prob a broken solonoid or they've made a mess of the cam timing procedure. Either way your car will be down on power.

  ITB'd MK1
probably a dead de-phaser pulley, and the solenoid has been disconnected to stop it operating. car will be losing noticable power without it on

I did think they had taken it off on purpose, ow well, i was selling it at end of feb so no point me trying to fault find it.

You will be suprised the car still pulls very well, i had a gti6 before and this feels just as fast
