Its in and the car is back on its wheels. It even starts. Slow going but we are getting somewhere!

Only issue is... most of the induction side is higher than my bonnet line....

Doesn't look like it fits. Maybe it's better if you scrap the whole thing and give me the engine to put in my rally car?

Cut an appropriate hole for the filter to bike through

i think you can get engine mounts that will drop that enough to get all but the filter under the bonnet just . I am sure i got shorter more solid rubber mount sections to drop on to drop mine , it was a tight fit .

Sadly I'm only 1mm above the chassis hoop at the moment, so I can't really go any further down. The Aero Race chassis really weren't designed for tall Duratecs.

I could cut the hoop off and then put smaller mounts all round but that'll cause me fouling issues with my dry sump lines. I'm leaving it as it is atm.

Finally got round to buying a new garage laptop so I can check all the ECU feeds.

Low and behold, all the sensor inputs are off the charts. TPS 100%, temp 100 deg, cranks permanent signal. f**k.

Everything was getting a 5v feed. So, I took the ECU apart. Not sure if it was a good idea. Anyway the sensor ground was fucked. I've re soldered it and all is well! Totally winging it. See near R134...

Dragged it out last night onto the trailer. Made a make shift roof as it was outside all night...

Got it all running in 30 degree heat and found it was strugging to hold a steady temp and idle even with the fan on.

Big rad time!

Ordered a whole new body for it too, to come in August.

First track day of the year.

Did 5 laps.....

It goes like f**k though, as it should with nearly 490bhp/tonne with me in it!

Sadly the head gasket went and it keeps pressurising it’s coolant. So I’ve s**t out for Anglesey on Monday, oh well. I’ll get it fixed soon enough though!

Bit of a shitter to switch from a ‘HG eating’ K series with no issues to a ‘bomb proof’ Duratec which then eats its HG.

any idea why the HG went ??

are you running an oil cooler , although your dry sumped arnt you

i feel your pain though

i did a fresh zetec in a dozen laps at cadwell after the oil filter undid itself and dumped all the oil on full throttle

after that i always lockwired the filter so it could not happen

Duratecs suffer from head walk over 8000 rpm. Plus the front waterway just about touches cylinder 1. Not ideal.

Yes I’ve got an oil cooler and my dry sump tank is in the air wash from the radiator.

Annoyingly it’s only at WOT and over 5000 rpm I’m getting cylinder pressure bleeding into the coolant. Although after the breach in that heat cycle, I get exhaust gas in the coolant at idle.

Let it cool and it’s fine until WOT again.

arse , never seen a big power duratec go pop .

@James 12 laps after a 5k rebuild ..... totalled the bottom end as it seized but fortunately didn't totally trash the top end.

.... you just have to take a deep breath and start again.

thats the trouble , when you start running big power on track you have to belt and braces everything you can.

i have seen worse things happen , my mate totalling his duratec caterham at spa .... plus breaking ribs in the process.

that was his first track day after getting it after he sold his superlight r500

Saw this on FB, guessing it's you anyway. Absolute bummer

There was some bloke at Blyton on Weds having issues with his Caterham too - something to do with the oil breather? Was puffing smoke and bogging down on the tighter corners

Only people willing to touch this engine want it delivering to them as just an engine. f**k sake.

I’ll end up doing this myself!

be the norm to be fair @Waitey

Paul Dunnel would be my choice or Ammo at RaceCo if he is still about

Paul first
