VVT solenoid issues

right when i have the solenoid plugged the car sounds horrible has no power and misfires, sounds like valves are hitting.

when its unplugged i have better power, still misfires and no noise of valves hitting.

replaced the solenoid and plugged it back in it does the same.

any ideas would be great, really stumped.
