very poor fuel consumption

  clio sport 182
hi guys, need some advice on this one.

backstory is car ran fine but thought i was getting crappy mileage at 300 miles a tank on my standard ff182 with economic driving on motorways and a/b's, lamba sensor was on and off intermittently, so opted for long overdue service, cambelt and auxbelt with all tensioners on the car, plus replaced both lambda sensors, light has gone off but after all work was done by local renault specialist im now having following problems.

exhuast note has completely changed and seems to be vibrating with an almost reverberation noise.
did motorway run with cc set at 70 and trip read 32.4 mpg, turned around at roundabout and to watch trip computer go down by 1.2 mpg while stationary for 30 seconds.
driving economically will give me 220 miles out of full tank if im lucky, car is always run on v power.
driving economically since has put me at 19.8 mpg, i got 22mpg out it before if i used a heavy right foot.

is this something the garage have c**ked up with the timing please, if not what am i looking for after a full service and the belts and tensioners?

had it since febuary and it was colder then, and it was fine then.

its been really bad on fuel this past week since getting it back.

Just for info, I do high miles in my 172 and will easily get 200 miles to £30 of fuel (mainly motorway) so something is definately going on (i'm guilty of not really maintaining it well either as its my daily work hack!)

Get the timing checked by the garage. Would take about 10min to do. All they need is new cam seals. At the end of the day if you pay the money you have (assuming it was in the £500 region), I would expect it right.

had mine doing 21mpg recently, pumped the tyres up to the reccomended 50 bar on my michellin pilots and im getting 25mpg, i only drive around town though, do you think the exhuast could be blowing if it has a different note? that probably wouldnt help.

I hope you mean psi ;)

yes 50psi!!! sorry for confusion, that is the tyre rating on the side wall, they are michelling ps3's either im being a pratt or its very miss leading, doesnt feel unstable "however i do need a step ladder to get in the drivers seat now" =p

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
read closer!!!! they wil be rated at 50psi MAXIMUM. you want to set them to 30-32psi when cold

also, if you're only getting 20-25mpg, something is broken

Quoted for future lols.

doh, i will let them down now before i have a quad blow out! Dan i have checked anything obvious like lambda sensor, cambelt has been done by a decent garage so im a bit stumped!

Define decent garage. Are they familiar with these engines? Do they have all three tools? I'd get them to check the timing. You will be able to tell straight away.

previous owner had the cambelt aux belt and dephaser done at jms tuning in chertsey, per say the timing is out is that a new cambelt again? please forgive my lack of knowledge, i am enjoying my 182 but by no means do i know my way around a car, any advice is appreciated.

Belt might be ok to re use, but for the price i'd just stick a new one on. I assume they changed the KIT and not just the belt? I'd go and see a specialist on here if you are unsure.
